Been spending some time up at my Mother's house this week near Stockton. When it started snowing, I knew I had to go out and get some shots on the moors. The snow was coming down pretty fast up there and was drifting to about 3ft in places. Anyway, these were taken on (the appropriately named) Cold Moor. I've tried to get across how bleak the moors were, with the snow making the land basically merge with the sky in places.

The images are subtle HDRs (no tone mapping, though there isn't exactly much to tone map anyway) of three images that have had some contrast tweaks and then been converted to B&W. 350D and kit lens, ISO200, f/11 with custom WB.

Not to sure on 1 and 2 because of the amount of blank whiteness however i really like number three thats a keeper.. You have a bit of is it sensor dust or snowflake at the bottom of 3? :)

Definitely prefer No. 3 - No. 1 does not have anything that gives it an obvious "scale" so I did not really know what I was looking at

Yeah, they are pretty blank but that's what it looked like really and that's what I was trying to get across. Without the snow, Cold Moor doesn't really make a particularly interesting photo.

Oops that one slipped through my net, thanks. It's water on the lens - as fast as I was trying to get rid of it, more was taking its place, as the snow was basically horizontal with the wind. I didn't want to take my camera bag or tripod up there for fear of breaking my neck, so I just had the camera under my waterproof while I was walking and couldn't do that much about it.

I am just going though yesterday's pictures (took too many and was out again at dawn this morning as waking up to snow is such a rare occurrence) and am having to dump a lot because of that horizontal snow blowing onto the lens. It was difficult to keep anything dry enough to clean them with yesterday

Yeah it was a bit tricky. I do agree with you both, though - 3 is my favourite too.

No. 1 is my preference
