Not at all ... :suspect: ... although the second is clearly the best of the bunch because it is exposed well, has an interesting composition and as I have said is sharp throughout ... :D ... and if it was hand held then you have done a good job ...
The other two do not have the same impact though imhgo ...

I messed up on the first one big time, my legs was starting to ack from standing up so was shaking abit sort of thing.
My model one turned out good, should i add them to this thread instead of making a new one? Or that could cause confusion
Nicely done T-G. And always good to see a pub shot!
Techno-Geek
08-04-2008, 00:34
Thank you Tooler, they are really nice people in the pub
I might go back in there tomorrow and see if i can get more of the bar and that
Does anyone think i am improving on my photography skills? I think i am anyway
But i want to see if anyone can see if i am by them shots :)
I am now taking notice of your posts to see how you're getting on. From the last set of shots I saw posted by you, these are certainly an improvement.
Keep it up mate.

I agree with the others, but I sort of quite like no. 1 too. Its a technique I've used before on walls and railings. Sometimes it works and sometimes not. You've not quite got it spot on because of the lamp post.
Photos taken in pubs always look better at the time and then when you look at them the next day, they seem less good. That's the case with the beer mat. Think a bit more about the composition - you've got distractions at the top - the chairs and the other beer mat. A crop may have been better.
Technically they're all fine (except the sky's blown in #3 because you've metered for the black sign, I guess)
Good set, though

Like post up the things i take from the day so people can see if i am still progressing?
Thanks

Well I'm not Admin of course ... :suspect: ... but as a similar thing happens on many posts in the past I really cannot see anyone objecting to this approach TG ... ... at least you will have your images in a single place for others to review and comment on your progress ... ;)
I am sure if I am not on the money here others will stick their oar in ... sorry ... put me straight ... ;)
Go for it I say ... :D

Not best pleased with this, with the blown-highlights but i will post it anyway seeing that i want to have something to look back on and say "Well that was out of focus, lets go and try it again" sort of thing.
I will more than likely do that for every photo i get out of focus :)

This bench looked nice just sitting there all by itself, and the tree really did it for me.
What you think guys?
Not too bad at all.
I like your compositions but find the 30mph sign in 1 a bit distracting. However No.3 is a very nice pic indeed.
Techno-Geek
08-04-2008, 17:21
Going to sort that sign out now mate
Techno-Geek
08-04-2008, 17:36
Is the one under the orgional one better?
Try a crop losing the sky altogether TG - sorts out the issue of the sign nicely and also loses the blown sky! ;)
That Black & white shot is nice - you could get away with giving the contrast a bit of a boost too - try having a play with Dodging and burning to add a bit more punch.
Well done - you';re coming along nicely, I would say! :)

08-04-2008, 18:02
There you go, i have added another picture and i will remove the one's i don't like the best when i have heard some comment :D
What do you think of them three?
TG
TG. From viewing some of your other images this set I feel is improvment, you seemed to have grasped Contrast, Sharpness, comp and the subject .although there is need to not over expose as this shows in your skies.
I would feel that the pub is worth another visit, and if the landlord is ok, you could find some interesting shots.
Good luck...

Hi Tony, they are definitely improving. I think you are now understanding the rule of thirds. You do however need to find some more interesting subjects to take photos of.
Maybe in the pub you could look out for some real characters and then take some candid shots of them.

Yep. I agree, nice shot TG. Cute dog too - do you know what bread he is? (He looks a bit like our beloved hound, but not even the vet is sure exactly "mix" he is!)
My only suggestion would be to try getting a bit lower when photographing your dog - it can produce some great results.
Keep it up!

Well done TG. the only bad comment i got, is you deleted a few of the earlier photos making the comments not tally up, sorta got a bit confusing when they mention the 2nd shot and you cant see it. Hope you can keep the shots going on a regular basis:thumbs:

I am going to have to go and do this again tomorrow or something because i am not best pleased with the results, maybe it was because i was breathing heavily and couldn't hold the camera still
Tony
I agree with the comments regarding the first day 7 shot - very nice. One thing I can't get my head around though - you keep posting shots and saying you don;t like them, they're out of focus, etc. If you think at a shot and it doesn't meet your own personal standard for posting, then why post them up? You clearly realise that they are - even in your eyes - of a lower quality than others you've postedm so either go a day without posting a shot, or go out and re-shoot if that's possible for you. Remember, quality ahead of quantity! ;)
I like no 1 of day 9 too - my sort of shot this one. Remember when framing though to check around the subject for anything that you don't want included - in that shot you could possibly have re-framed to exclude the aerials.

I understand what you are saying Witch, It's normally too late for me to go back out and try it again so sorry about that.
It was something i see when driving back from the shop and thought it would come out good but it never,I put up the images images i have taken that day regardless to what i think they look like, because i want to be able to see people's comments on them and see if they can see the same things i do which is wrong with the photo. Then i can go out another time and correct this

TG - keep going - Days 9 & 10 are good (11 less so). I admire people who can do this for a whole year and part of the challenge is to post the crap too, if that's all you've got for any particular day. The interesting part of the exercise is to see how you improve over the year - and I'm sure you will. Some of your recent stuff is better than the first few shots you posted up here. So, there's an improvement already.
And I have to disagree with Witch about missing days. If the idea is take at least 1 pic a day, then you have to do that and post it. Which is why I'm not doing this 365 thing - at least at the moment. You'd end up looking at 365 photos of my dog.
Techno-Geek
16-04-2008, 22:56
Thanks MV
I think the main thing letting me down is the focus length of my camera lens, it is actually doing my nut in. Like them sheep in that field, if i could just get abit of zoom on them they would be alright. The camera is up to, just the lens isn't

No - don't think like that* Use what you've got more creatively. That's why the phone box pic works and the sheep don't. What you need to work on is your eye - try and see a photo closer up - recognise what the tools in your hand can do, not what they can't
* we all want bigger / wider / sharper / softer lenses - its only natural - go for it if funds allow. But more gear is not the holy grail - its about what you see
Assuming you're still using the Fuji that's in your profile, then its a camera that can produce excellent results - maybe have a look on flickr to see what others do with it - here: http://www.flickr.com/cameras/fujifilm/finepix_s6000fd/

Really like this one! Wondering if some of the other shots are a little oversaturated ie the dog pic?
Totally agree with mobilevirgin. Its the photographer that makes the picture not the camera. For example I've seen some horrendous photos people have paid good money for from some people with top of the range gear and I've seen some utterly amazing photos from people with cheapo cameras, take the Holga, ok so its style is not to everyones taste but it is essentially a cheap and nasty plastic toy camera but some people produce images with it that leave me in awe!
I totally see where you are coming from with all the images you've posted, you can see you've put a lot of thought into them and your passion is evident. I shall be keeping an eye on your thread for developments and new pictures for sure!

I like day 25 but it could do with a crop as it is. The view down the centre of the trees would make an excellent shot without the fence in view. Perhaps try doing what GF Williams suggests and get closer to the ground. If you can't just try zooming in so you cut the fence out of the shot. Your photogrpahy is improving by the day Tony

Well done for keeping this going btw :)
Tony, I was wondering what settings you are using with your finepix, Manuel, Auto, AP etc, it seems that on some images showing the sky, the sky is very blown. Not knocking but just wondered if you should be playing with the settings a little more...My daughter has the same camera, she is getting her head around the settings which has preduced better pictures.

I am not a very happy bunny today, I get walked all over when someone wants to borrow my car and my mum saying yes without asking me. People want to sleep in my room without asking (asking my parents instead) and they think that it okay. My room is my personal space, i hate it when people invade it
They were sleeping in my bedroom for about 3 days until they decided they wanted to go back home today. Knowing dam well that they can't take there car
I am sitting here, feeling unloved. Forgotten about and all the stuff that comes with it. No one is talking to me. None of my mates ask me out of a night time, oh yeah that would be because i have got none :argh: Don't you just love moving away?.
I have stopped going out in the day. People don't know what to do when they see someone in a electric wheelchair, around here most of them just laugh. When i go out on the trike it is the same. Can't win :(
Oh my, i could moan about a lot of things today.

hillwalkinggirl
22-06-2008, 22:00
Your mum shouldn't let anyone borrow your things - they're not hers to loan. I would never have dreamt of doing that to my children. Your room is your own personal space - it's not fair to loan it out either. You must have a serious talk with your mother and explain to her that it's not the right thing to do.
Start that photography club up you were talking about, and then you will meet some new friends and even if you don't, it will give you an interest and you will get to know some people in the area. I'm sure people don't laugh at you - you are just being paranoid. Sometimes people are embarresed and don't know what to say to you. Just take the bull by the horns and start the conversation. Anyone riding a trike is bound to get stared at - it's quite unusual to see one, and they are just interested. Stop moaning and go out and enjoy the new place. You will probably get to love it eventually.

Just the usual today, sat at my desk doing things on the web etc.
I took a photo of me about a year ago and thought my back was too small for my liking, like not built up enough so i went about building myself back up again. That bulge near my back isn't fat. It's muscle :) Honest, I don't know if any of you know but i done the mini marathon in London three times until i had to stop because i out-grown my chair so i was pretty big built after that with all the training etc. Then i just let it all go
So as from today, I have decided to start building myself up again

You may feel you have a problem, but those that you feel are treating you that way have much more of a problem, i try to treat and greet everyone the same,as iam sure many on here do as well, there are none of us so called perfect, the word should be removed from the dictonary. Trully those that are laughing have a real problem, truth is they don't know how to deal with somthing a little different.
Good on you for doing the marothan, never could do it myself. Lets hope you have a better day today, lets see some more from the new camera.

I find that if people are getting to me, i take some 10-20 deep breathing, after a short while all don't seem so bad .
Main thing is to keep positive, get on with what YOU want to do.. And get that Camera going...

I did used to love it
People do actually laugh at me, I've seen them look and laugh straight away. Or just call one of there friends and they both laugh.
I want out of here, so much-ch-ch-hc
Hi Tony
I have been following your thread for a while without commenting so thought it was time I chipped in.:D
Your photography is improving and you certainly seem to spend more time "up" than "down" now.
You have made some brave posts and been totally open to all the peeps on here and have had some very positive responses.
Tell your Mum how unhappy it makes you when she lends your things/invades your space, no good bottling it up because it will bite someone's arse eventually:nono:
Pick up all the positive, get your camera, fix the brake on your trike and get out there and enjoy taking photographs.
You have made some online friends here who will keep giving you the constructive critisicm and support:thumbs:
For those who laugh at you when you are on your trike, sod em
They are unimportant, ignore them
No go and do what you enjoy best. ;)

Day 12
No more fatty foods

I am laying off the fatty foods for a bit so i have started to eat cereal instead of sweets, fatty drinks etc in an effort to get myself slim again.
And after my wheelchair breaking down today i feel shattered but aswell like i have done some work and lost some pounds

I am in a slightly more happy mood today, can you tell? :D
Well, i have not been in a good mood all day. Being home all the day by yourself isn't really that appealing to me, But it is what it is like for me everyday.
Then tonight, i get my driving test booked YAY :):D So that lightened my day up

First off, Not a good photo i know
I am getting annoyed at living at home still. I am not allowed to do what i want, i am not allowed to stay out late. Which is how i have lost friends. I can't even go over the pub. I am 18 now for jubba sakes. Why can't i do anything?
I have no freedom to do what i want, i have people telling me what to do left, right and center.
Am i being selfish in wanted to do what I want to do?

TG - time to grow some balls mate :) Your 18, you can do whatever you want. I realise you have some issues with mobility etc, but come on, lets look on the bright side. You really do not want to sit and mope though, seriously - chin up, PLEASE :D
Jump on a coach, a traun, get to the nearest big city with your camera, and have fun! Go out and experiment.
Gary.

If i go out, i get a phone call "Where are you?" Me "Out" "Oh come home then"
If i turn my phone off i'll have the police, the FIB and whoever else after me.
I do try and keep my head up, but i am seriously struggling
Tony
EDIT: Ohh Catherine Tate has come to the rescue with her videos on Youtube :)
Hi Tony,
I've been following your thread but have hardly posted, and without going into my life story I can empathise with you. I have a son a couple of years older than you and understand that it can be hard to tell your family and those closest to you how you feel. However, often it's not as bad as you think it's going to be..and if you are able to choose a time when eg your mum is not busy and relaxed to mention to her some of the things that are bothering you , you may get a better reaction than expected.
As for the trike issue, sometimes the person in the chair/on the trike needs to be the strong one by just looking others in the eye and giving a confidant smile (even if you don't feel confidant) then you may get a smile back if nothing else. This could then lead to a build up in confidence which then means you don't give a monkeys about what any one else might be thinking about you....and you know what??? Sometimes when you think people are looking at you or laughing at you they actually are not.
Carry on with your thread and let's see you out and about in the near future
JO

Well, what can be said about today then. I woke up this morning in a bad mood and walked outside to go and check the post and looked over at my car and see it sitting here :) That put a smile on my face and hasn't come off all day
I love my car, it doesn't argue back. Does none of that :)

It wasn't "Oh i can't think of what to take and just grabbed this on my desk" i thought this one out last night and had a go of it today :D
I am getting more and more used to using, Manual mode on my 400D which is a bonus.
Heading out for another drive tomorrow so that should be good :)

I forgot to post last night, but when I saw Day 16, I giggled a little bit, woke the girlfriend up! Was expecting to see a bored / tired Mr TG, but instead we saw an excited happy man. I hope it's reflecting the mood you were in :D

I got my driving PRACTICAL TEST appointment confirmation though the post a couple of days ago, and thought i would take a shot of it as my 365 today as it was the only thing that really appealed to my on my desk
I just can't wait to get driving, it is going to be awesome

Wish you the best of luck Tony. Once you pass your test, you realise there's nothing stopping you going here there and everywhere. You get more freedom.
