Very fast and those good enough can make it razor sharp too.

Hell yes!

When I had my 5D (first DSLR) the 50mm was the only lens I had.
When you start to fill up your bag .... you forget just how versatile this lens really is.

Some of my first shots with my 50mm 1.4 ...

Ahh youve seen the shots of me posted on here then, George!

Thanks guys, it is a versatile lens, I also found gave me good grounding for my other purchases that followed.

Just remember that the 50mm f1.8 wont autofocus on the D40(x)

yeah thats also another reason why i wanted to upgrade my camera (read other post) because of the lack of autofocus motor :( its ok though cos most of my shots i manual focus anyway

Great shots there InaGlo.
I've always had a 50mm in my kit bag ever since I've had an SLR, they're small, light, discrete and useful.
I've currently got a Nikon f/1.4 and it's brilliant, the DOF is ultra thin, and theres lots to experiment with.
