done a quick search on the forum and couldnt find a quick guide to doing an orton photograph so thoughti would share this:

using photoshop.

1. duplicate background layer and call it Sharp
2. create another duplicate layer of the background, this will be called Sharp Copy
3. change blending mode of sharp copy to screen
4. select sharp copy layer and merge down
5. duplicate sharp layer and call it Out Of Focus
6. go to guassian blue and select 16 for value
7. change blending mode of Out of focus to multiply

to enhance your results you can change the amount of blur, change opacity of the Out Of Focus layer and tweak levels and curves of the sharp layer.

Sounds fascinating but how about a picture of the effect as to what you actually get :shrug:

Not too sure what I think about it though.:thinking:

There's something of it in oldfart's thread here here too ...

Also Les used it here (http://www.talkphotography.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=41820)but called it Painterly glow.

Perhaps we should have a Photoshop challenge for the best Orton Effect/Painterly Glow :)
