Um, brave or foolhardy??! I certainly wouldn't try it with mine! But there again, I don't have a 1D so I can't!

*EDIT* Just come across this one as well: Slightly (read 100% more destructive! ) way of doing it:

Hardly - he only popped off a plastic/rubber fitting. Didn't exactly risk screwing the optics or anything. Used his initiative, and it paid off. I like to see that.

Yeah - however if that were me, i would probably slip and jab the optics and then ruin it all together.

I think you just have to be careful. I rebuilt the 'camera end' of a Nikon lens (it was a little cheaper than the EF-S 10-22 though!) without much difficulty. I think you just have to be careful. He does turn the lens to 22mm though, to move the rear element as far away as possible.

This topic is very innteresting as I've been toying with the idea of buying a 10 - 22 lens (or similar) for my 'original' 1D.

What would you guys recommend as alternatives?

Cheers

John

Life in the crazy lane more like

Fair play, he took the risk, it paid off, as said above, he was careful and didn't touch the optics, so it was a calculated risk

Why dont you just buy a Sigma 10-20, saving you recking your 10-22.
The Sigma fits on a 1D or 5D, ive tried it and its a bit odd.
