View Full Version : This should not be happening - ISO 6400!
Just a quick test shot with the D3, I wanted a scene that had dark areas as well as some highlights in order to test the high ISO and dynamic range. The top left corner is very dark and I was expecting the candles to be blown but they weren't. The capability of this camera is astounding - I reckon I could set the default ISO at 800 and not notice any loss in image quality.
D3, Nikon 50mm f/1.4, shot at ISO 6400, 1/50th, f/8, no PP except resize for web and convert to sRGB and no noise reduction.

Cheers m8
You've just knocked another grand off my D2xs' value !!!
I recently shot some stuff at 400 and 800 ISO, concluding that I couldn't use it 'properly' at 800 ISO as the quality wasn't nearly good enough
I reckon mine's a 400 ISO tops !!!
Grrrrrrrr

Yup, have to say that's an impressive image indeed, and is as you'd expect from such a class camera.

Lots of people say the D3 and D300 has solved nikons noise issues, i say there wasn't a problem in the first place. What they have done is simply created something far, far better.
This is my D80 at iso3200, no PP, just resize, and i think its perfectly acceptable. The same as you, i picked a spot with a large dynamic range (lots of highlights and shadows).

To think that the D3 is at double the ISO, and less noise is astonishing though.
Thats amazing ISO capability, if i send my 400d to nikon i wonder if they will swap the sensor
