I covered this event tonight where to be fair, the light was afwul. I pushed the D3 to ISO 6400 and still struggling for anything near 1/500th, which would freeze a hand. My eye started to wander and I spotted an essay on the corners of the ring, in between bouts. I noticed that some of the fighters on display tonight looked worried. Not seen it before. A big crowd may have caused it. Naturally, I have converted to these to black and white to add to the atmosphere.

I have added the peekaboo shot (2) as I love the moment - he was lit by a video camera light. I also like the crowd shot and the bell shot, where a shaft of light was hitting the judge. One has to say that these are so like film it is frightening. It was good to get the camera back out tonight, as it had been at my Mum and Dads, under the bed for three weeks!

Damn they are so clean for iso6400, which if I'm honest is a bit of a shame. I think they'd be nicer if they were grittier. But then thats just me and I love gritty b&w. I really love the 2nd. Great eye contact.

Yeah, I know what you mean Pete. The flickr upload has 'cleaned and sharpened' them a bit however.

some corkers in there and as a set they really work to tell a story. You have my sympathies on the low light in these circumstances, but at least you have able to come away with a different take on the night too

Nice set. Might be worth experimenting with underexposing and push processing for faster shutter speeds and it may give you the grittier look you are looking for.

I would agree that they mite look more catching with a bit of a grittery look with a tad more contrast? prob just me, I'm the same as petemc I love gritty b/w. Nice shots again D. I like the way you've used the rule of thirds in a few of them

8 and 12 are my favorite ones for sure. The atomosphere captured in these is brilliant. What lens(es) did you use if you don't mind me asking?

The reason they looked scarred isnt cause of a big crowd. Its cause at the weigh in they see their opponant and start to build him up in their heads. Knowing a trained lad will be trying to take your head off over 3x2min rounds is daugnting.

You should see the pics of me walking to the ring for my debut. I look terrified. Good thing i won :)
