bridge vs lightroom?

hello all

i am familiar with bridge and also have lightroom on my macbook, should i ditch bridge and learn lightroom? or stick with bridge? which do you use? which is better? etc

this has probably been covered i know so i apologise in advance

Best option spend a few weeks using Lightroom. Then decide. It all depends what you want to get out of the software.Lightroom in many cases is a very useful tool. If you need to handle reasonably large volumes of images, file them and find them again in quickly then Lightroom is ideal. Also the image processing tools, although similar to those in CS3 are much quicker to use with a number of images.

The new Version 2 Beta has been released and this supports a second monitor. A big step forward.

Search the internet for a few tutorials, there a lots out there, that way I think you will be able to judge if Lightroom is for you. It may not be. Personally I'd be lost without it. It's one of the best programs I've come across for handling large volumes of RAW files. It's not perfect, but it's getting there.

Don't forget Aperture as well. OK it's Mac only but that shouldn't be a problem for you. Personally though I prefer Lightroom. But try them both and then make a decision. What works for me may not work for you.

Lightroom is far quicker and easier however it's down to how YOU use the programs. I know a guy who uses bridge and does not like lightroom....!

I tried LR a while back, even put up a thread about it.. but just couldn't get into it at the time. Last year I got into a routine with Bridge and stuck with it. I usually open around 10/20 raws at a time, depending on the set I'm working on that is. Ie over a wedding shoot, i use bridge to import the files, review and delete, rename, then i open the raw files into CS3, as I say 10/20 at a time, and carry out an action for the main processes and save to psd/jpeg. If they need adjusting then CS3 at the ACR stage gives me what I need for that, ie recovery, exposure etc.. IF.

I'd give LR a play if I really thought it could improve my workflow speed. As the poster above said, i would have to spend some real time with it to give it a fair evaluation.

Wow Lightroom will speed up that workflow considerably. Import images. All images are shown. Edit first image. Synch to all the others that are similar, job done.

It's shaved many hours off my workflow. I rarely even use Ps these days!

I prefer lightroom as I find it has just what I need and nothing etra to get in the way

I started off using CS2 and bridge, and I set up quite a good system for processing my shots. Then along came LR with some very nice tools and gizmos; so I gave it a try.
I have to say I found all the importing, exporting and re-importing a right pain in the neck, so when CS3 came out with all the same features I went over to that.

I use Bridge at the mo, really happy with it. I also have lightroom but have yet to actually try it :lol:
