Hi all,
I started a thread here (http://www.talkphotography.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?p=620728#post620728) a couple of hours ago and after generating some interest, decided to go with the idea.

I am fairly new to photography and very keen to learn.
The TP forums have turned out to be a great community and even helped in the decision making process when buying my first DSLR.

So anyone interested in a day out in Brum on the 10th of May, let me know.

For all my decision making now I will end up following and learning from you guys on the day.... :|

I'd quite fancy this actually, but it's no good me making a commitment at this stage.

Whats nice in Birmingham to snap at?

I've never been comfortable taking pictures of people, so is there anything else interesting there?

The City Centre is very pleasant to walk around now, being largely pedestrianised. There's usually a few buskers and pavement artist types around, not to mention some interesting architecture around the Symphony Hall. The city is a real cosmopolitan melting pot with visitors from all over the world, so loads to go at.

Parking and leaving the car is the only thing which would concern me a bit.

Parking isn't a problem in Birmingham. I too am paranoid about my car but I have no hesitation in leaving it in any of the wardened car parks in the city. Many of these are within yards of the routes that no doubt will be of interest. The cameras put the chavs off and they move out into areas' like mine (Northfield) for their days work.

Honestly, Brum isn't intimidating in the least so don't let anything put you off coming. If I can pluck up the courage to meet you all on the day then I will be there too.

Birmingham is like any other city in the UK it has it's good and bad areas. Parking has never been a problem for me, as Verococha said there are quite a few wardened car parks within easy walking distance of the many things the city has to offer the modern street TOG ;)

No one else up for a day out in Brum??

As I said in the first thread am up for it, so is it definitely 10th May and some street stuff? What time? Meeting where?

I will be coming on the train to New Street so somewhere near there would be good

Slvrbck
18-04-2008, 13:41
Well I'm from just outside brum so any one of the train startions sounds like a good idea.

New street sounds good to me.....

I would think that we would want to be out of brum by early evening (chav city on a sat night) so i'm open to ideas for timings?

Trying to find the old brum meet thread to ask the opinion of the folk that did it before.

Around 11 or 12 in the vicinity of New Street sounds good to me unless anyone else has an opinion.

Saturday is a very busy day to do a meet in Birmingham. Sunday seems like a better day but that's just my opinion. The last meet was held on a Sunday. If you want to take lots of candids of folk doing their shopping it's ok not so good for architectural stuff.

I thought the idea was some street photography, so am guessing Sat would be best but maybe i am biased as that is what I want to do

I think there'd still be plenty of activity/shoppers on a Sunday .... but Saturday might be manic!

Sounds like we have a plan starting to form......

Venue: Brum
Meet: Outside New Street Station
Time: 11am - 12am (I will be around from 11)

I guess the only other thing to decide would be a route?

I just looked at the planning and results thread of the last brum meet (didn't realise it was less than a month ago :|), and they got some cracking shot.....

I guess we wouldn't want to do the same route to keep people interested but again... open to other people ideas...

CT, Duckydoodle & InaGlo, hope you can make it, I don't think I have ever seen a bad pic from any of you but I am a huge fan of your work InaGlo

(Sucking up over, I should get back to work...):exit:

I think InaGlo has a point.....

Sat will be busy but I don't think so busy that it will stop us or cause us to get in peoples way?

We met at Brindley Place just off Broad Street last time - it's an NCP car park that has CCTV, so probably as safe as you'll get in the city. I think we met on the Sunday so it was a bit quieter, but as long as nothing's on at the NIA I can't see it being that busy.

Unfortunately I can't make the 11th as I'm sorting out details for my wedding, and really don't think I can wiggle out of that one.
If the date changes then I'll have a think, but otherwise hope you all have fun!

If you park in the NIA car park it's failry cheap(ish) and safe. Usually leave my motor there when we go shopping for the day with no fuss. It's just a short hop around the NIA, across the canal and you're on Broad Street (about 5 mins).

I'd be up for it (if I'm not fishing) - have we got a list then of who's deffo/maybe/too busy playing with their kit at home? :)
