photomattix help needed urgently

hi all

just a quick question about photomattix have combined 3 tiff images and gone into tone mapping just wondering which is the best output depth 8 bit or 16 bit? sorry if its a dumb question and also in the tone mapping section what does the 512, 768 and 1024 refer to?

I don't mean to sound harsh but did you think to try and see what they do? They refer to the resolution of the preview image. As for saving I always save as 8bit jpg.

I normally save 16bit but I edit everything in 16bit for not any real reason other than its technically better if you plan to make lots of adjustments as there is more data there. I know I couldnt tell the difference in the final shots in 99.538% of the shots I take.

For what I read on tutorials....
You save on 16 bit and when you transfer to photoshop to do the final adjustments, you transfer it to 8bits then.......
