Was just going through some old shots and found this one. Thought it was an unusual shot of a swan. Other than a slight change of colour cast and sharpening this is unmolested.

I uprez'd this one and tonight I got home to find my 30"x20" print of it waiting for me. Now to find a frame...

Please feel free to comment.

Nice close up, but highlights are a bit blown out.
But thats a bit hard on the shot as it,s a bright white bird.

Yeah, when it comes to pure white stuff, there's little choice but to blow out at least some of the image (same with snow). Otherwise, it looks gray.

As for the image itself, it's nice. But I feel it would look much better in black and white. Most things with blown highlights look better in B+W. Plus the colours are not particularly striking.

Yeah they're not easy to get right. I didn't think the original tiff file was blown out as badly as that, I'll have a look.

Theo_Moore, I did try black and white, and in fact the swans feathers where very much more yellow looking in the original before I lowered the colour on the shot. But in pure B&W it just didn't look right to me, and the beak being coloured adds something. All my opinion though, I have to thank you guys for making the effort to comment :)

Like this one. If it were mine (if only) I'd crop the top 20% so that the swans neck enters the shot on the corner. This seems to balance the light and dark tones better. BTW the light tones do not appear blown on my monitor. Light yes, blown no.

Also the beak being the only bit of colour other than black and white draws a lot of attention which would be lost if the entire shot was monochome.

I like it as is except for the comment re crop at the top.

Agreed about the top. Lovely shot though :)
