Lovely as always Alby. Like the reflections of the flowers in the water drops. Oh for just a tiny amount of your talent :)

Really love the first shot - great colours and clarity.

Very jealous - I can never seem to get these type of shots right.

and gives tog gear to worthy charity.

Although I have to say, I scrolled down too fast and thought as the first image sped past there were slugs on the stem. This is because slugs have been on my mind a lot lately and is absolutely no reflection (ooops, pun not intended) on these superb pics.

There - done without 'n' word. :D

Hi Alby,

Firstly, like the macro work. It’s the reason that I now have a Raynox MSN202 and am crawling around the garden looking for bugs, water drops, small stones and just about anything else that’s tiny. Very inspiring stuff you produce, and with follow up advice, has really helped me (flickr account gregpc1 if you want to take a look).

So I thought I would come to the expert with my questions as having read through numerous threads I still don’t seem to have found the answer.

I use a 400D, the only lens I have that will take the raynox is the 70-300 sigma.

The DOF is miniscule, even at f22. How can I get a larger DOF any tips/best angles?
Is the 70-300 lens not ideal for the msn202. Perhaps attaching it to a Fuji s9000 bridge camera would be better?

Do you use a macro lens? At the moment I can’t afford one, but in the long term would a dedicated macro and the raynox be better. Would the DOF improve?

What tips do you have for using the Raynox, I seem to have to get within about an inch of the subject at approx 45 degrees (not pleasant when you are afraid of spiders!).

For water drops and refractions, do you also use the raynox. I struggle to get the DOF within the water drops to bring up the refraction to its best.

All advice is greatly appreciated and results will be posted

Thanks folks for all your nice comments ;)
Greg: I've had a look at your flickr site and you don't seem to be doing that bad. The narrow DOF come with the territory of macro and there are a couple of things you can do like the angle you shot or focus stack. With practice you will get used to the DOF but like I said it takes a little while. The Raynox DCR 250 is better but not as powerful.
I do take water drops with the raynox but it is mainly attached to my Panasonic camera. You need to take 2 shots for the dewdrops, 1 for the sharp focus of the drop and another for the sharp focus of the refraction then merge them together. I use combinezm. You can do it in PS by aligning the 2 images and put the sharp drop as the foreground and the sharp refraction as the background. create a mask on the foreground and reveal the sharp refraction through the center of the drop. Phew! I hope you understand all that. ;)

Great photos Alby as always. I'm going to try that when the wind stops blowing. My gardens like a wind tunnel at the moment with the wind coming off the sea.
