I wouldnt mind getting my grubby mitts on a macro lens now i have seen the fixed length ones and they look interesting but ive also seen the Sigma 70-300mm f4-5.6 APO Macro is this actually any good or would i be better with a fixed length one 90mm 105mm etc etc

I have the 70-300mm APO, wouldnt use it as a macro though. You can only use the macro setting between 200-300mm which is far too long imo :)

It's also not a genuine Macro lens, it is capable of close focussing but won't give you the 1:1 reproduction necessary for true macro. The lens will also produce nothing like the quality of for example the sigma 105 Macro which would also handily double up as a mid range telephoto prime.

Just get a really macro lens. They are designed to do what they say rather than having a lens which could do macro. Sometimes you can't get as close on the "telephone macro's"

Really macro would be a better bet ;)
