The 2nd one does it for me!
The first one maybe could do with a bit of a crop, from the right?
Tigers are gorgoues, eh?

Lucky you - the 2nd is obviously the more pleasing. Good eye contact and light on the face. Pity about the tree.

Very clear and sharp
Yet the first shows just how effective their camouflage can be,
and the best bit for me ? no fences or wires in the "way"

Very fortunate indeed to get the chance to go shoot them and then to actually see them must be a super bonus ... :D

A couple of great captures but :agree: the second is spot on even with the tree ...

The second one is great - superb focus on its face

Shame with no' 1 that his face sort of fades into the background, but personally I think the tree "makes" the second shot, the focus on his face is so strong I don't think you'd notice his backend anyway :)

Wish I could have taken them!!

2nd shot is definitely the cream of these 2, the 1st (although being there i bet it wasnt) just feels a bit flat to me, whereas the 2nd shot has great eye contact, is beautifully sharp and i dont mind the tree at all :)

Wow Neil, these are fantabulous, second has impact, in the first, I like the way the tiger kind of blends into the background, looking completely comfortable in it's environment.

This is good work

I'd love to go to India-perhaps one day when I'm old like you.......

That must have been an amazing experience to come face to face with these beautiful creatures in the wild!

Very lucky and fantastic photos as a reminder to!

Was it an 'on elephant safari'?

Lovely and sharp. 100-400 a few years on the clock and still rocking, great lens.

Will try to answer everyones comments, thanks for them!!

In Ranthambore the safaris are jeep or canter (22 seat bus) based. It is pot luck if you see a Tiger as you pull out your road number from a hat. There are 5 routes, not all of them picturesque. Jeeps are limited and need to be booked well in advance, but there are always plenty of noisey uncomfortable canters! we visited in both types of transport, the canters are cramped and made for 22 midgets. The jeeps sit 6 people but only just, still cramped, but they are not diesel nor full of squawking kids....on both occasions we saw a tiger (first on a canter, second in a jeep) there was always a couple of jeeps and canters in the area, all fighting for best spot (jeeps are better at this). Onboth occasions we had canters full of Indian kids behind us, kids don't do quiet, kids don't do as they are told....one of said kids also jumped out of his canter on spotting a tiger and ran towards it...sharp words from the driver stopped him.

First shot I kept becuase It shows synchronisation between animal and habitat, 2nd I like and the tree is growing on me :) There are more but I need to resize them to get them on here :)

Les, don't ever get as old as me, you'll hate it. ;)

Yes the 100-400 is good, when it feel like it....certainly performs better on a 1D body (wish i had had it in India!), just dissapoints on the 5D...but I managed.

I am sure I saw a documentary about this place with some famous Indian naturalist or actor (Thapar?) and I always vowed to go there one day? do you know if this is the same place. Awesome experience by the looks of it.

Cheers guys. Ranthambore has been on many a nature documentary so itis possible, but there are many more (sadly not enough) parks in India. I would love one day to do an elephant safari in India, would love too to see the Lions and Leopards....and some big Gariels :)

Both shots are great. No1, like has been said shows how well they blend in. No2 is just fantastic - I can't add any more.

Looking forward to seeing the rest of your piccys.
