Went away with Linda and the boys to Derbyshire a couple of weekends ago. I had just turned a corner in the middle of nowhere and Linda asked me to stop the car. A lamb had just been born in the field we were passing. Mum was cleaning it down.

I took a couple of shots and got back in the car. Then Linda told me to get the camera quickly. I'd just put it safely away!

But I only JUST caught this: (sorry about the wall. No time to compose.)

It may sound daft to some, but I kinda felt honoured to witness such a thing in the wild so to speak. No one to help mum or interfere. She was amazingly caring towards her young.
No instruction book for her.
Now I'm not a town boy by any means, but I've never managed to witness this in the middle of nowhere before.

Bet the farmer was happy when he turned up later.....

hope you enjoyed the piccies. As usual feel free to comment...

....and the ewe just stands there....amazing. I suppose she was too busy tending to her first born.

wow - fantastic moment. The pics don't need C&C really (although I think you know anyway). That's about capturing an event and you've done that well.

Well captured some really good shots. I am glad you managed to get the camera out in time. No C&C as these are just great spontaneous shots.

Thanks for the comments everyone. As already has been said, Its not about the piccies this time.
Was brilliant to witness.
LadyLens: I obviously didn't notice the second one coming! I would have captured it far better if i had been more observent!
Typical bloke. We don't look at the messy bits! I was looking at the cute lamb!

Super record shots. The first reminded me of my springer spaniel a couple of days after he had eaten a Tesco carrier bag unknown to us.

Great series.

As for the ewe, she did not even break sweat.

Giving birth is easy!

I'm so jealous! I've never seen a lamb being born - it's something I've always wanted to see too. You can see the nose and feet of the second lamb just poking out in the first picture.
