Managed a few hours after work in the sunshine at my local estate gardens. I guess Beeflys are like buses, dont see any and then they are everywhere

Lesson learned today...always carry the Tamron90mm, i could have got some great inflight shots. They tolerated me getting close when they were feeding but not when hovering.

Excellent Alistair well done. I saw one today but never got anywhere near to photograph it. Great quality as what we've come to expect from your photography.

Mind me asking how you are diffusing your MT24 cause the lighting on these is superb, I know several people are now using the fong puffers but that works out quite expensive.

I should say i am using something expensive, but im not. Just a piece of kitchen towel folded in half and placed over each flash head and held in place with an elastic band. Sinilar to what i was doing with the 430ex and coke can diffuser. Ive only had the MT for 4 days so still experimenting but im loving the results so far.

lol the best results I have had so far is some paper boxes I made to fit over them.
Looks like the cheaper ideas give just as good results.

Indeed, even though the last is missing part of the body. It's my fav. Gorgeous detail.

Thats what it is! I was chasing one round the garden with the macro yesterday when the rain stopped and the sun came out but it was far too frisky and wouldn't sit still.

Angry little thing as it was chasing/attacking the other bees!

Great shots and great colour.

Great captures of a weird beastie!

The title I read as 'beef-ly' feeding I was expecting to see cows at lunch!!
