A hole in my sky!

Help!

I am using PSE6 and learning as I go!

I have made a panorama which I am really happy with, but I have a hole in the sky. Here is a JPEG crop of part of the picture, showing the problem:

Please could someone tell me how to plug my hole? :lol:

Ta da :) Just use the clone tool and select another area of the sky to copy from, luckily there isnt much detail in the sky. Hope you dont mind my quick effort :)

Hmmm i'm not too familiar with PSE6 but in CS3 its the little icon with a stamp on it. If you hold your mouse over it, it should give you its name :) Or you might be able to press the "s" kep to select it.

"Cannot use the clone stamp tool because more than one layer is selected"

Make sure you only have the one layer selected from the layers panel. Just click on one of them to select it, it should be highlighted in blue.

OK, done that. Now I have to Alt-click (so it tells me) but I just end up with a single point, which moves with my cursor......

I think I know what you mean, but isnt that what you want? Alt click somewhere on the blue sky and then paint over the white bits :)

That's great, and I understand it now............ and I can do it with the JPEG.

.....but...........

The 'real' file is a TIFF and my 'hole' is actually outside my photo (it is a panorama and the hole was made by three photos not lining up correctly) and it will not let me do anything in the 'hole'. In fact, I can't get the clone tool to work at all on a TIFF. Do I need to convert it to JPEG?

I would save it as a jpg. There will only then be one layer. Then you can clone it as above. I believe that tiff files save layers - I can't remember as I very rarely use them, due to their huge size..

You could always use one on the images twice (the one that would fit in most) then do a little smudging and/or cloning. Luckly as mentioned above, the sky doesn't have too much detail so it shouldn't be too difficult. HTH :)

If you cannot clone try this. Use the polygonal lasso tool to select some of the sky - right click and "layer by copy" Make sure it is at the top of the layer stack. Move it over the empty area and use your eraser tool set at a low opacity to remove some of the edge to blend in.

I tried to add another photo into it, but it looked awful. I just couldn't get the thing to line up.

I couldn't get the lasso tool to do what was described.

In the end I changed it to JPEG and sorted it out that way. I would still love to know how to fix the thing keeping it as a TIFF.

The Clone tool has an option to sample all layers which you to need to tick to clone areas from multiple layers. Another problem is that each layer has a mask so although you are painting the mask is keeping it hidden. On the layer you want to use to fill the gap get rid of the mask by selecting Layer > Apply then the Clone tool will work (with sample all layers) ticked.

In CS3 I usually make a new layer at the top of the pile and then do Ctl-Alt-Shift-E, this makes a merged copy of all the layers whilst still retaining your original layers if you want to go back. This would also allow you to continue editing as a tiff file. I'm not sure whether this works in PS6 as I have checked my old PS6 manual and it lists Ctrl-shift-E to merge layers, but not how to merge and retain existing layers, but then again my CS3 manual doesn't tell me how to do this either.

If this doesn't work then you can get around this by making a snapshot, and then doing Ctrl-shift-E, you should then be able to do all editing on this new merged layer, while still having the opportunity to go back to the pre merge layer if required. Be aware though that if you close the file the snapshop will be lost. So be sure to make a duplicate copy of your file before doing this.
