Looking around everywhere i am seeing 4GB, 8GB, 16GB CF cards. What i want to know is, will they work in older digital cameras ? i.e. sandisk Extreme IV.

I currently have a 5 year old Canon Powershot Pro 1 and am getting a 40D next week. Will any of these cards work in both cameras ?

The speed shouldn't be an issue but the size might ;)

Check your manual for the maximum size supported by the camera :)

Older cameras such as the 10D only support FAT formatting and so 2GB is the max.

When my camera manual was written in 03, 1GB cards were a big scoop at the time - if you know what i mean. Hence no one had any data or larger cards to prove otherwise.

The Canon Powershot Pro 1 supports FAT32, so, you can safely assume it will support 4gb cards... id highly doubt it will support 16gb, even the 5D has to have a recent firmware update to fully support (it will write, but couldnt format) 16gb cards.

That said you should be able to get a raft of photos on a 2gb card from an older lower res camera.
