Im really interested in getting myself a macro lense however i must confess i have never used such a lense before,
I own a nikon d80 so any preferances would be appretiated:)

A nikon fit tamron 90mm (I have one which is very good) or sigma 105mm seem to be the popular choices. If you want an actual nikkor one it'll cost you...

Nikon 60mm AF/D f/2.8
Nikon 105mm AF/S VR f2.8
55mm AF micro is probably a bit old now
If Sigma, I'd try to go 150mm or 180mm

I have the Nikon 60mm f/2.8
Such a nice lens. Sharp and good value as well.

I have the Nikon 105mm VR Macro and it's super sharp and super contrasty so I would wholeheartedly reccomend this - but it is a very costly lens.
