why cant i delete it?

hi all

i have created a hdr in photomatix and then tried to open in photoshop but ps didnt like the format so i deleted it to the trash can (im using a macbook) but now i cant empty the trash can i keep getting the message saying the file is in use but it is not in use and i have restarted my laptop a couple of times yet still cant delete it? the file name ends .hdr please hellp its driving me mad now

Can you restore the file, change the extension and then re-delete and empty the bin? That's what I would do in windows with a file stuck in the bin.

Try holding down the Option key, then from "Special" select Empty Trash.
