View Full Version : Canon SD Card

To all you Guru's...
Just bought a 2GB San Disk SD card off a generic auction site. I put it in my camera (Canon Powershot S2 IS) and there is an intermittent "Card Error" and "Card Locked". As I said, it is intermittent, some times it does, and sometimes it doesn't. A guy from work took it home with him and formatted it, but it still didn't work.
Any ideas why this is happening, and any way I can cure it?
Thanks in advance,
Nick
Have you looked at the contacts to make sure they are clean? Tried it in your own pc (if you don't have a card reader, get one it will save loads of time uploading images)

The contacts are fine. I can't find anywhere that states the limitations on my camera (card size).
On your second point, sounds good to me. Any recommendations?
Nick
Can you format it through your camera?

Check the manual, 2Gb may not be supported

Sandisk do one - 12 in 1 for around £14 ? Is what I use/would recommend !

I have a Sandisk that seem excellent, Jessops stock them as do most online places.
The point about cards size may well be valid though..
This review speaks of using 2gb cards so I reckon that's not your problem.

The camera will not let me format the card if it locked. When it wants to work, it lets me, but nothing changes. I use a Viking 512Mb which works fine.
Nick
Can you return it to San Disk as faulty?

I'm sending it back to the guy tomorrow (if he sends his address...)
No one would be wanted to get rid of any 512Mb'd would they??!!

I'd suggest trying a 1Gb card next. Try using one in a shop and make sure it formats/takes photos.
For what it's worth, I can't use my 80x 2Gb in my 1D Mk2 but it works fine in my 20D.
Carl.
