close up to show it is really crooked. It is said to have 32 tons of lead slates on the 8 sided spire.

thank you

Well ... I knew photoshop was good ... straightening horizons, sorting perspectives, verticalising (?) uprights but - twisting spires ... now that is seriously clever stuff ! Respect Stev ... :innocent:

I used to cycle past that often back in my cycling days. Nice to see it's still there... it is indeed an oddity.

Nice use of the trees for framing there Mr Boon. :thumb: Shame about the mad monk and his bike though! :laugh1:

<useless info>
Chesterfield is perhaps best known for the "crooked spire" of its Church of Saint Mary and All Saints and is why the local football team is known as "The Spireites". The twisted spire leans 9 feet 5 inches from its true centre.

The twisting is probably the result of unseasoned timbers or insufficient cross-bracing, although there are other explanations: One is that the spire was so shocked to learn of the marriage of a virgin in the church that it bent down to get a closer look. Should this happen again, it is said that the spire will straighten and return to its true position. Another is that a Bolsover blacksmith mis-shoed the Devil, who leaped over the spire in pain, knocking it out of shape.
