i just want rid of a government that isnt doing anything to prevent the rapid (and grossly unfair) fuel inflation, more than likely on 'green' issues, however if i lived in london or anywhere else that has a good public transport link id quite happily use it and leave the car at home, sadly i dont, public transport is on the whole utter ***** outside cities, so i have to use my car, me and probably 80% of the populus......

aparently BP and shell have recorded record profits from the start of this year as well......

Diesel is 1.19 here :( and the big fuel companies have made billions in just 3 months :annoyed:

I've got both ends of the spectrum here, a megane that's averaging about 55 mpg and a Navara which isn't.

I still find it comical when people blame the oil companies. If you think their profits are high, just consider how much the gov. are making with their 70 odd percent taxation!

As I've said before though, they do have a war to pay for ;)

Lets not forget that the VAT is on top of the duty, so that would be a taxed tax! You couldn't make it up!

The cost of oil is bonkers, including heating oil (for those of us who live in the sticks and have oil fired central heating). Heating oil was about 15p/litre about five years ago, around 35p last year, currently 50p! :gag:

LPG is great: I don't know why more people don't use it. Our V8 Disco runs on LPG (48p). LPG kits start at £300 or so for older (simpler) cars ~ we'd save that in not much over a couple of months at today prices.

As for BP and Shell, we must remember they are OIL companys not petrol companys. They make a huge part of their profit selling oil that is used in nearly everything you can think of like plastics and so on, petrol is more or less a waste product left over after refining all the other uses out of oil.

Fuel cost are high because of TAX TAX TAX don't blame BP blame BROWN

Very true!! And considering the process petrol goes through, from expeditions to find it in the first place, through to your forecourt £1.10 a litre is cheap compared to lets say, bottled water!!

Doesn't bother me in the slightest not owning a car though :D

Thats ridiculous.
I honestly don't mind minimal increases.
When my wife was paid monthly, we used to top up once a month roughly, so a couple of pence on a litre, was what, a £1 at the till? Thats fine and dandy TBH.
But it's going up by a penny or so a day, or at the very least a few pence a WEEK.

When I got this car (my first diesel) a couple of years ago, I started working out mileage and recording how much fuel I put in it every week.

14/03/06 it was 94.9
then by 11/02/07 it was down to 86.9

Now it's whooshed back up to 119.9 (what it is at our local Tesco...I assume Asda is still 117.9 or 118.9)
With the independants (or Esso's etc) even dearer.

Scary

Currently costs around £80-90 a week for approx 800 miles, if it hits 160p that is going to add another £30-£40 pr week.
Doubt if i would get a wage increase too match:( This is gonna bite a lot of people hard:shrug:

Filled up this morning @ £119.9 lets hope £1.60 doesn't happen, I wonder how many people will lose their jobs due to that, especially reps.

I know I didn't plus the lose of the 10p tax bracket plus the sting of everything else going up in cost I reckon that I am at least £200 a month worse off than I was 2 years ago and I know that my salary has not gone up that much

I wish, have actually started to work a bit more from home though, I think it may become more commen if you are able as more firms slowly come round to treating their workers with a bit of respect
