the easiest way to create collage?

I would like to create collage from few photos like here in picasa (http://picasa.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=19539) - Picture Grid but without cropping the pictures. I mean not making squares of them. I'm looking for effect like this - http://www.flickr.com/photos/nygus/2185768190/
So how to do it? The easiest way? I don't have photoshop. Is it possible to do it in gimp?

Not sure about Gimp but I know Photoscape will do it.

I'd suggest investing in Photoshop Elements 6 - about £60 and occasionally you can find OEM versions for as little as £25.
