Not sure if this is the correct forum but i've recently picked up a Nikon D40x and cannot find out via the manual how to change the shutter speed and aperture etc...

I just want the basic directions on how to adjust the settings for light trails at night.

Thanks.

Never used a D40, but if the controls are similar to my D70s:

Turn the dial to A (Aperture priority) and then spin the rear command dial to change aperture.

Turn dial to S (Shutter priority)and do the same to change shutter speed.

You can adjust shutter speed whilst in A mode by using the front command wheel and vice versa for aperture if in S mode

Put dial in M (Full manual mode), on how mine is set up the rear command dial will alter the aperture and the front one will alter the shutter speed.

The official version will be in your handbook somewhere.....:thumbs:

i presume its the same as the nikon d40 so here goes...

if shooting in manual mode;

hit the info button on the top right hand side and this will bring up your info screen. turn the dial on the back of the camera to increase or decrease the shutter speed.

to change the aperture, you have to hold down the button beside the info button (it has a + and a - on it) and turn the dial, this will change the aperture.

when looking through the viewfinder you can also see this information in the bottom part of the screen, you just need to learn the button layout first!

hope this helps?

If you can't find it in the paper version, searching the PDF version of the manual could be faster or give you some results:
