im gonna be doing a couple of pictures for a mates band tomorrow night so im looking for a bit of help settings wise
i have a nikon d70s a sigma 17-70mm f2.8 and a nifty 50 any sugestions on which lense to use and on what settings

Okay, I'd start with:
Shoot in Av mode, ISO as high as you can stand, RAW and spot metering (or center weighted if you don't have it).
Shoot in continuous burst mode and fire a few off at key moments (big drum rolls....foot on the monitor guitar solos, Roger Daltry-style mic stand shenanigans etc.)
Keeping chimping to a minimum, you'll miss shots, but check every now and then that the settings are working and take masses of storage and a spare battery!
