Not normaly shooting people i never have a clue, this was an 'approach and ask' shot as i have trouble resisting newborns and puppies and i would really like to try and make it as nice as possible for the couple as they were so lovely, so any thoughts..??

Not that I know alot. But I would not crop it. It looks fine as it is.

I thought her ears looka bit...messy, distracting? So I would go for a crop along these lines, and a bit of pp'ing to smooth skins, sharpen and boost the baby's eyes, usual sort of portrait stuff. This might be a bit overdone, but you get the idea.

I would crop in portrait and lose the shiny lughole, is a bit distracting I think.
edit : Ooops sorry LadyLens you beat me to it.

Similar crop to LadyLens but I've cloned out the hair band & slightly lightened the image.

Sorry for delay in replying - I cropped the picture, then used CS3 to apply a surface blur [I have only just found it this weekend and its fab for portraits if applied sparingly], found from Filter Menu>Blur>surface blur. An alternative would be to apply a little gaussian blur then some sharpening round the eyes, or use the brush on about 15% opacity to lightly airbrush the skin, but I find this new version of blur much nicer and more natural.
