OK, I know yesterday's post was rather dull. :(

I hope today's gets a little more response

#1: Facade of Amiens Notre Dame cathedral. Sky is blown but I have no idea how to fix that. Any help there?

Hi Paul,

What camera were you using for these? I can spot more than a few issues i'm afraid, although I think they are all well composed...

What settings & lenses?

Gary.
(Novice so take my comments with lots of salt) :D

Hi Gary, took these with my P&S (am in France for work but had some time to kill monday), FujiFilm F10, and although it has been good to me for the past 2.5 years, it obviously has its limitations (rather few compared to its owner :D).

Can you post a link to yesterdays post, it's hard to catch them all...

And thanks for looking and taking the time to comment (I am a novice, I have seen some of your shots and like most of them).

Composition is best on 2 and 5 and these are my favourites
No 1 the sky is blown, the angle looks odd perhaps if you had stood a little more centrally  Colour looks flat too perhaps saturation and contrast boost maybe play with levels
Sorry that sounds very negative but wanted to be honest :(

Paolo,

Although it pains me to say it, () your Nikon would have coped with shots like this much better. The dynamic range of the Fuji and lack of metering options will not give you the control required for good detail in the difficult lighting conditions.

I'm sure that there are plenty of exceptions but I raraly see a P&S image that says 'wow' if the subject is more than 3 metres away.

Inclined to agree with DD and CB however I do like the 2nd and last shots especially how you've composed them - I too missed yesterdays shots so thanks for the link.

i think the camera has a problem with working out the exposure where there is a big difference........... in everyone of them the exposure is an issue. i think a couple could be saved with replasing the sly and some PP work, Comp is good in them but im nto sure about the first one, perhaps standing further off would have helped

Funny how you look at things differently when you know it is a point and shoot camera. I was wondering how the problems came about..... them changed to thinking they were not bad for a compact in those circumstances, and a bit of editing could improve them still.

Thanks Bob,

I know you're right, but I am not about to take that to Kaysersberg! Or any other plant for that matter!

Time to kill, P&S handy, no tripod, dark interiors. Too light exteriors. Oh heck, the visit at the Cathedral was worth the trip!!!:naughty:

Everyone thank you for the comments, it's better to be honest DD otherwise I might be fooled into thinking I take half-decent shots!

Anyone know if I can salvage some of the exterior of the cathedral where the sky is blown, and most importantly, how?:help:

The camera may have its limitations but the cameraman is the one to blame! .... :bang:

So throw all the comments at me, I'm a BIG bloke (Bob can vouch for that I'm sure) and hopefully your comments will knock some sense into this thick skull!!! :bonk::bonk::bonk:
