50mm lens, just playing about with some lighting with cheap lamps...completely different from the shots I normally attempt.

Okay, this second shot has not worked as well as I would have liked, but if I don't try, how will I learn :D

I really should not have gone for this shot, as soon as my camera was turned off, I gobbled the lot of these!
I think this is the weakest image from this evening. Too colourful, too vibrant, and the DOF is maybe a little too OOT and overall it's softer than I would like.
All part of the learning process I suppose :)

C & C welcome as always!!

Thats really unusual and works for me!
Minor niggle is that it could do with some space at the bottom
But thats minor - the colour and clarity are fantastic though!

The problem is, I framed it with the shadow hanging off the bottom, and rather than try and cut it out, I cheated and just sat it on the picture frame :D
Glad you like it,
Gary.

Its pretty good - the lighting is fine - but the crop/frame/whatever doesn't work so well.
Go back and do it again :)

Very very good Gary. Think a square crop on the mouse will enhance it. Love those white stones in no3 and the skittles in no4. Great work on the tomatoe lovely composition

My favourite is the tomato.......... and I don't even like them. It just really works for me.
I like the 2nd one too but I would have like it more if the focus had dropped off further down the line rather than after the first stone.

Hi Staffitaxi, agree completely re the DOF on the 1st pebble shot. I was I think at f2 on the 50mm if I remember correctly. I will be trying this again, had so much fun last night!!!

Sorry to bump an old thread, but I thought creating a new one even worse. I want to take more shots of my stones tonight (:D) - any tips?
Gary.
i love the already posted shoots, for the stones a darker background might help them stand out more.
Nice shots Gary, the tomato is the one for me too.

Thanks Toothie & JGS - trying a few more just now.
Gary.
Great shots Edinburgh gary, how did you keep the background so white?

Hi VisualiseTheWorld,
I put the objects on a white plate, and used 3 100 watt desk lamps to light them. Seemd to work a treat!!
EdinburghGary

Oh and the desk lamps were only a few CM from each subject, so you need to crop in, therefore the plain background becomes very important.
so do we get to see the new ones?
