These fan vaults were built around 1500 in the retrochoir of Peterborough Cathedral. It's hard to imagine how the medieval masons, using the basic wood and metal tools at their disposal, turned ordinary stone into something so beautiful.

your right about the stone masons, like to see them try it with the machariney available today.

You pic is well exposed and shows most of the detail. The line through the middle being a bit lopsided is a bit distracting though. However, i get the feeling its on of those pictures that never looks straight.

Thanks Toothie and Dafmeister. Yes, Toothie, if you "correct" the middle line you throw the verticals out. It comes from something (a tomb as I recall) being just where I wanted to be to take the shot. Very inconsiderate these cathedral builders :).

I like it Tony, nice capture, but do get the feeling i want to give it a little rotate to the left, although looking at the two lower windows this would possibly not work..

Absolutely stunning - it always amazes me how they managed to create these masterpieces all those years ago. Great picture despite the slight skew;)

lovely shot, colours could do with a little oompf, but nice nonetheless......... the architecture is phenomenal, still not a patch on Rosslyn Chapel ***! ;)

Good shot - lovely textures. Agree with Fionab about the saturation, though.

lovely shot and very clear - you could always use perspective cropping to get in line!
