Just wondering if anyone uses a ball head with a monopod, particularly for sports, and if so do you find it beneficial?

i have done in the past, but only because i saw someone else do it!

i found it occasionally useful, but not very often. on the other side it certainly wasnt a hinderance and seeing as my 486rc2 head fits my mono and tripods it's no extra expense.

infact after thinking about this for a while it is usefull as i can then use a QR plate on it which is much more convenient :)

Could never see the point of a ball-head on a monopod , I use a mono with a QR plate for Motorsport (panning) and it gives pretty good results (IMO ;))

Reason I am thinking about it is that in motocross you're not obly going side to side but up and down as well. Monopod on it's own doesn't give you the vertical movement.

Having said that, there's so much movement I'm not sure a monopod would be that much of a help anyway, I think I've already talked myself out of it ;)

A ball head is just what it says really, think of it like a ball and socket joint which you can tighten with a screw into any position. Nice and quick to work with but probably not so precise as some of the three way heads where you control movement in each plane individually

Hi Dod

Thanks for the info. Does it fit onto any tripod / monopod? Does it just fit on the screw that you would usually put the camera on?

Thanks

Allan
