I've just got my 400D out to set it up as my spare for this afternoon, and the auto focus didn't work. Assumed it was the lens, so swapped lenses, but it doesn't work on that one either.

Any ideas?

 is there a way of turning it off you might have accidently set?

Hi

I know this sounds simple, but have you tried the AF/MF switch on the lens, it might not be switched over properly

ok, I know nothing about canon, so poking around in the dark, but obvious suggestions would be to clean the connections between body and lens, and to ensure batteries are fully charged.

Can I do any damage by cleaning contacts? (memories of Janice and sensors).

 probably less than Janice did to a sensor - somewhere on here there is advice on what to use, but you could start by very simply giving them a nice wipe with a dry cloth.

:D

Does it have a function in the custom functions whereby you can swop the functions of some of the buttons... ie, autofocus on and the exposure lock button or something like it does on the 40d?

Just in case I had accidentally set something like that I did a "clear function settings". I'm charging the battery at the moment...perhaps it hasn't got enough oomph!

Thanks for the help....I'll let you know how it goes.

It may sound daft but the focus servo is not set to ai servo is it??
On my 40d the focused beep does not emit when it is in that mode and I often think it hasn't focused, I switched it back to one shot and all is good, focus points light up and it beeps when focused.

Just a thought.
