Recently got a Pentax K100DS and using with an SDHC 4GB card but only managed 40 shots with new NiMH batts. So downloaded the V.1.02 update from official Pentax site to solve SDHC 'compatability' problem.
Formatted an SD card in camera and placed update on root of drive : note there is a folder called DCIM in same location and the ‘BIN’ file is not inside it.
Then held down menu button and turned on camera but update doesn’t start.
Tried several times but won’t work: whats going on??
Instructions have been followed precisely
Please:help::help::help::help:

I hope you weren't using those dodgy batteries.

You should be aware from the firmware's Readme.txt something along the lines of:

If the camera turns off during updating due to lack of battery power, the
camera will become inoperable. If this happens, a charge will be made for
repairs even if within the warranty period.
