Anyone got one of the cheap alternatives for this release.

The ones I mean have no sliding lock to stop it falling out of the socket...so do they stop in or not.

I already have the Canon one but have a joint in it for a 10 metre cable I use for some bird photography. It's not always reliable because there are two seperate (phono jack) joints that keep failing.

If I get another one I will cut the cable and permanantly connect my 10 metre cable...so no joints.

My only fear is it will not stop in the socket..

Yes, I had looked at this (http://www.morrisphoto.co.uk/ProductDetails~man~Seculine~productID~6113~categor yid~239.html) which I would imagine is more reliable than the HK cheap ones.

Only thing is I'm not keen on something that's battery powered for obvious reasons.

I had looked at these but 'out of stock' atm.

Just how easy does the plug come out?

just found one (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Remote-Switch-4-Canon-EOS-5D-40D-30D-20D-RS-80N3-RS80N3_W0QQitemZ360055524329QQihZ023QQcategoryZ643 45QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem) on ebay, with lock.....cheap enough to give it a go I think.

I got the remote today which was very quick seeing as I ordered it yesterday afternoon.

Only thing is I got the one with no lock even though it clearly shows it has one, and states it has one.

Oh well, waiting for his reply.:(

The radio remote batteries last for years, remember all you are using for is 1 press lasting half a second at a time. The battery in the receiver won't last as long, but they are fairly cheap and so far in over a year I've not had to replace one.

I may end up getting one if I have any more trouble with connectors in my long cable.

What batteries do they take?

Mick ...... If the fear of batteries is to do with quality then just throw away the cheap and nasty ones that are usually supplied with stuff nowadays and buy branded ones, then enjoy your purchase.

No, not the quality, but the battery life as you just don't know when they are going to die.

Also, you have to have 'line of sight' with the reciever and I may not always have that.

This is actually what I use atm.

Turned out my Canon remote cable was playing up and I have now cut the connector off it and soldered it back to standard.

I have also cut the connector plug off my new remote cable and soldered it straight on the 10 metre cable....so only one joint now.

Hope all this makes sense..:D

Waiting for one of these to come through...

Picture suggests it doesn't lock, but the text says it does - at £6.50 i guess its worth a try if the ebay one isn't what you wanted.
