View Full Version : Are there tunnels below blackpool
Ok this is a question, recently I have been hearing about tunnels that run beneath Blackpool.
Normally I would just let this go as fantasy, but Ive been hearing it from various different people, who dont know each other, and I cant seem to find anyone who knows the entrance, other than there is one in Bispham.
So my question is this, to anyone from Blackpool or surrounding areas, are these tunnels true, and if they are, where can you get into them, if it is indeed possible.
Or is it an urban myth.
I just thought I would ask on here as I know there is some urban explorers on here.
Thanks, Ash
Google it :D That's what I do, that or wikipedia
Is Fylde Coast near you, I'm sure I remember tunnels being there, although I could be completely wrong, it has been known before

Do you mean Man made ones?? there are natural tunnels and caves everywhere..
There could be man made one too.. you never know.. like under London, there are tunnels EVERYWHERE!!! you'd be supprised as to how many!! under Westminster theres almost an underground city!! floors and floors that go DEEP under the sewers and Tube network.. Its almost like what you see in Men In Black!! so i wouldnt be suprised if there was..

they house aliens that have landed on earth. Obviously they need somewhere to live, so they built a network of secret tunnels below blackpool, with casino's cinema's, leisure centres and a place to repair their broken ufo's and also contact their home planet through inter-galactice telecommunications that far in advance of our technology...
hope that helps ;)
Dont be daft surrealillusions, I was asking a serious question, and I mean man made tunnels, and yes Blackpool and the Fylde :) in answer to kelack, Ive googled till I cant google any more!

Have you looked on 28dayslater?
is this in anyway related to the tunnel under T'atlantc??
Yeah, I looked on 28 days later.
All I found was posted above, and no not tunnels under the sea, lol
Hi, I've heard also that there are supposed to be tunnels in Blackpool. Apparently there is one from the Winter Gardens to the Tower & it was used for the circus performers & animals to get from place to place.
the urbex sites will have them if they're there.
As an aside - has everyone seen their version of the Sheffield cooling tower photos?
AFAIK there are no disused tunnels under blackpool , I do lots of urbex and spend lots of time in the 'pool

i saw them from the cooling tower, i wouldn't have dared climbed that tower lol.
good commentary though
I see you have collected quite a few cynics with your Question. So lets remedy that. In 1980 Iworked at the Merrie England Bar On North Pier From the cellar there is indeed a tunnel heading east up Talbot Rd, Iwas told it was blocked off about 50 yards in but no one knew what it was for or why it was there.
Over the next couple of years I heard similar stories like yourself, of tunnels under Queen st, yates's and the Little Vic on Victoria St(now demolished) but nothing of any substance.
It wasn't until 1985 that the stois started to take on some relevence, Istarted Work at the Railway Pub on talbot road(often confused with the Station and presently named O'Neills) In the very large cellar, far to large for it's purpose are three huge rooms and each room has a tunnel out of them. One heads west to the promenade, hence The Merry England Bar, one heads south west towards the tower and one heads north towards Queen St, this one I managed to enter as the other two are bricked up about 15 yards in. The one leading to queen street is also bricked up but after about 50/75 yards down.ow The Railway/ONeills is Built on the same plot of land as the Catholic church, on talbot Rd that at one time owned the land.
At on time in our dark history Catholocism was banned and anyone practicing it could be executed or some other barbaric punishment was their fate. So illegal catholic masses here held.To piece it all together these masses were held in secret and one place was under the Railway/Oneill's and as th story goes the tunnels were Built and used as escape routes if ever they got raided.
There was at one time a plaque inthe Railway stating that Illegal Catholic Masses were hel in the cellar, but either lost during the many refurbishments or some souvenier hunter has it on a bedroom wall somewhere.
I too have tried to find out more but there seems to be alot of secrecy surrounding this topic. One place I haven't trid is the church on talbot road for the simple reason.....The Catholic church would never involve themselves in anything illegal...........would they.
I hope that helps you and if you do find anything else Post it I guarantee you the tunnels do exist.
