View Full Version : Old Blue Door
Although I've been entering the POTY since January this is the first time I've posted for crticism. So all advice gratefully received :D

It's taken with a Canon 30D, 17-55 IS USM, f/9, 1/400s on a very bright day.

As you've said it was a sunny day and as such it has sapped a lot of the contrast from the photo. So I upped the contrast. A shot like this I always think also needs a nice boost in colour saturation.
I'm no expert by any means but hopefully this version is a little more gritty which this type of shot usually benefits from? :)

Thanks for that chump! I'm still getting used to this PP lark and your version looks much more striking.
I think Chump's overdone the saturation, but only by a touch...
Are you seeing some barrel distortion on that shot?
Overall I like the shot, but primarily for the detailing and the textures, as it's not complete enough for my tastes, but that's probably because of the shot angle/barrel distortion which has cropped the lock housing bottom left.
I think a balance between the original image and the edited one would be perfect.

I agree with Magnum.
Good picture Bruja !
Is this any better? I've tried to get halfway between the two.

Yes.
Lovely shot. I wish I could see shots like this when I head out. I don't have the eye for it that you seem to. Nice work :)
I thinking there's more shots like this in Southern Spain than in Exeter, but what do I know? :D
The light makes a hell of a difference too....
Cheers guys. It's nice to get some positive feedback when you are starting out. And this was my first post for criticism so it was a bit scary!
I like the eye for detail and the contasting textures. The edit by Chump1979 was too overdone for my taste but I love the compromise you've ended up with. Keep it up!
The last tweak is pretty good, just about right

Hi Bruja
This is a good record of an interesting texture/shape shot - nicely spotted and taken
Just as a thought for you though - in camera club circles this would be classed as a 'Record' shot and so the fact that it wasn't taken totally straight on would lose it considerable marks (club judging can be weird - :cuckoo:)
I just straightened it a little to show (closer anyway) to how such a shot would be taken for a club comp
See what you think, and if you'd shoot it differently next time?
Nice though, whatever -

Thanks for that DD. I was concentrating so hard on getting the saturation and contrast right I hadn't noticed! So many things to think about at this stage in my development... How did you do it?
