View Full Version : My 365 - Something different every day - Tuesday 05/08/08
My name's Alex, i'm 19 and work as a networking enginer for a company in Bangor, I live in Llandudno North Wales. Photography has become a hobby, and i've really got into it. So much so, i'm starting a photography night course in College for 9 hours a week from september 15th. Hopefully my photos and terminology will improve over the next year.
I have a Nikon D60 with kit lens, nifty fifty, and a sigma 55-200. I will be adding a new lens to the collection tomorrow, either a 10.5mm fiseye or the 60mm macro lens.
I've been wanting to do a 365 for a few weeks now. The images will be random. I've only had my dslr since april 1st. Since then, I think there's only been a few days I havn't taken a picture. So now we're half way through the year (Exactly) I thought i'd start today :)
As there's a few people (George, Jimmy & Marcel , that I know of) doing a 365, I don't expect everybody to reply / comment on each photos. C+C is more than welcome though!
Thanks
Day 1:

I was going to use an image I took yesterday, but I thought that wouldn't be a good start, as i've not been out today, I popped my head out of the velux window and took this. I added the border as it looked a little bland.

Edit: I said I was getting a new lens today, well on the way to the camera shop, i scraped my wing / front bumper/ arch and headlight. So i've booked it into the bodyshop. So no new lens yet :(

I didn't know Vauxhall did performance cars! :D
I tried a 365 twice and failed I just didn't see the point if I didn't feel every shot counted...

The shot is good, but maybe a little too saturated IMO.
Also, did you get any panning shots as I always prefer shots with a little (or lots of) motion!

Day 9: Went out to get a sunset tonight, i missed it by miles  So got this....
Think it works quite well, maybe a crop would of been better, or a different pic altogether :(

Attempted to get a macro of a bee earlier... it really didn't work, quicker shutters kept on coming back with really dark pictures, any help please? :(
Use a flash, or if you can splash out for one, a ring flash.

This set shows promise. Doing a 365 isn't easy because although the aim is to post a good pic every day, you also need to have the creative thought every day - which is the hard part. Keep thinking about the opportunities (eg plan tomorrow's shot) and you should do fine.

^^ What he said, that is it basically.
I have started mine again aswell, i think what we should do is decide on what sort of picture you want then go out and try and get it :)
I might not be able to post todays & saturday's picture as i'm going to London for the weekend. Might be able to get internet. I'll still take pictures though :)

I really like Day 21. Reflection shots are great.
Day 23: I went to the top of the 'Little Orme' today, it's a small local mountain. I tried to get a few pictures of views but ended up seeing this, as there was no sky, and it was quite dark I edited it in a 'old style' with use of sepia, film grain, vigenette and a little noise / desaturation. C&C would be good on this pic as i'm not sure if it's quite "old looking"

Day 27: Nothing good from me today i'm afraid, went out hunting for a few pics and they all came back not how I wanted.... Ended uploading these two. One of my girlfriend from when we went on a walk earlier, and one of the "Inside car, long exposures" it's my first attempt at the LE in a car, I know i failed quite badly... but i'll try again with the camera firmly secure rather than it just resting on the back seats on a tripod! Thanks you two :) Appreciate the comments as allways!
Off to a castle today :) There's an event on there, not sure if it's been rained off though!
Day 29: Took over 500 pictures today! Ended up going all over the place, met up with Gazedd again, and went to: A country fair, Pier, Waterfall, Some candid pics in a town, and a sunset!
Will process some tomorrow and probably put a thread up...
But here's one I picked off the camera that stuck out in my mind.

What tablet did you get, I'm desperate to buy one but they are a hell of a lot of money and I need a calibration tool first I think!
Keep up the 365 and good luck!
Paul
Thank you very much Paul! Yeah add away, :)
There was some Walcom tablets in the shop, and I asked one of their staff what should I use as a starter, he pointed me towards the "Walcom Bamboo" tablet, I paid £55 for it. It's quite hard to use at first, but compared to a mouse you can get VERY accurate results. I don't know which ones you've been looking at, but i'm really happy with mine. No point in getting a fancy wide version for £150 when never used one before.
Wow, we have the same laptop. Crazy. Sucks about the inspiration dude, I'm simalar today, got up at ten, had to be in work at 12, finished at 7, got home, put ma trainers on, went for a run, jus got back, gotta shower yet, and still get ma 365. Day 37: Only went out to the gym today and to post a few more CV's. The rest of the day was spent on various job agency websites, Monster, fish4jobs, reed and letterbox being the main ones. I'm still having no luck. Applied for lots of jobs towards Chester today, will be a nightmare getting there everyday (1 hour drive there and back) but nobody local needs employers. It's really disheartening when i'm putting so much effort into getting a job and not even getting letters or emails back saying they're not interested!

Quick copy & paste of the web for you:
Welcome to the CGD Research Trust website
The CGD Research Trust is the world's leading specialist organisation involved with Chronic Granulomatous Disorder, a rare immune deficiency.
What is CGD (Chronic Granulomatous Disorder)?
CGD is a rare and life-threatening genetic condition which could affect 8-10 people in a million of us. You are born with a faulty gene in your bone marrow, meaning your white blood cells cannot fight infections as they should. People with CGD have to take powerful antiobiotics and antifungals every day.

It's not as bad as its portrayed in that sentence above I guess. Theres people i've met with the same condition that have had a **** life, and generally been ill all their lives. I've had it since birth and it'll never go away. about 4-5 years ago was the last 'serious' thing that happened when my oesophagus closed up and couldn't swallow. A high dosage of steroids had to clear it.
As i said though, i'm healthy. I lead a normal life, so it's not that bad.

Gary.
Thanks Gary, i've applied for a few different jobs now. There's no IT jobs available around here. Applied for a few apprentice jobs (Electrical and Mechanical). Good jobs once qualified, but as there's no IT jobs, why wait around, I need to get working again!!
Fingers crossed a macro lens will be here tomorrow. Only rented though :(

Lovely processing mate, really does the image wonders :)
A piece of advice, DONT get an apprenticeship in mechanics (cars especially) Its same **** different day, crap pay and as i know you are a keen car enthusiast, it will become "another F-ing car" How often do you hear me moan about work/cars

Some really nice images appearing in the thread... IT works nice if you can get it, Might be worth while sending out some letters to local electrical contractor and large firms to see if they have any openings.
And as you have stated you will never be out of work.... Started as a electricians mate when I was 19 and for the last 25 years been working in deep dark holes... Channel Tunnel and London Underground.
Good luck on the Job front and keep banging on doors.

Who is the local Electricity Supplier in your area, its EDF here and they have a very good education program and once your foot is in the door thats you until they push you out feet first.
Might be worth throwing a CV their way..
MY brother is a lines man with EDF all he does all day is drive round in land rover checking the remote LV lines and poles and fixing the odd fault. I would love his job as he get every where.... Would be nice doing that with a camera on the passenger seat for company...

Welcome to the Forums mate. I'm glad my thread has of been interest for you. I don't do much processing on the images, just a few little tweaks, contast boost and sharpen them a little sometimes.
If you have a look on my flickr, on a selected picture, click underneath "Nikon D60" Where it says More Properties and you'll see what settings the pictures were used. Example: http://www.flickr.com/photos/alexwhitfield/2661173381/meta/
