It's been a while since I got my Harrier fix so with the improved weather today I stole 3 hours out of my day and headed over.

Like the first one, nice composition - you seem to have got exactly the right crop point there.
#2 is a bit air show for my liking.
#3 is ok, like the hangars in the background.

Cheers everyone. Thanks for the feedback desantnik.
All very clean and sharp photos there Gordon, like all of them.

Do you have a "special relationship" with them? It wasn't long ago that that base wasn't featured on maps (unless they were Russian).

No special relationship with either the RAF or the base. Unless you count them avoiding me at low level as 'special'! :D
Were you actually on the base to get the shots then? Or up a step-ladder?
^^Gord^^

Neither. I was outside the base but Cottesmore has a number of low fences that you don't need a step ladder for (one of the very few bases left without 3m fencing).

They've stopped applying them to the Harriers now but some are still sporting them and some have rather a lot.......

Very nice Gord.. like all 3..
Maybe wrong but is that a female pilot in No1?
^^Gord^^

Yes, it was a female pilot with the Naval Strike Wing....

Hi Gord.
My favourite aircraft, #1 for me it just looks "ard".
Great shots as always Gord, Harriers will always be one of my faves, as they were the first plane i really knew as a kid.
Thanks for posting.

Like them all, but esp #3 , lucky to get a pilot to look right at you
Nice to see the Vulcan back at Cottesmore on Gord's site. They were the first planes I was aware of, cos I grew up nearby. I remember them leaving for Cyprus. An adult might've thought they were off somewhere for a bit of retaliation.

Cheers guys, must admit I've got a bit of a soft spot for the Harrier as well. Shame they don't do the display anymore.

It's the hold point on the taxiway before the move onto runway 22 so they can be sat there for a while if another aircraft is inbound. The tend to look over and depending on what squadron it is you can get the odd wave as well.....

Ran out of room of decided it was a bit tacky?
There is always the other side of the aircraft to use and the other panels too

Female Pilots !, gadzooks ! !, whats the worls coming to ;-), hope she doesn't have to reverse it, it a a Harrier after all........ (ducks to avoid the incoming flak)
Lovely shots though, the Harrier could never be described as a beautiful aircraft, but it is very special, bit of a ugly duckling, and your shots show it wonderfully.

According to USAAF and RAF research female pilots make "better" dogfight (close quarters) pilots. The female heart is closer to the brain compared to us males. This shorter distance which the blood has to travel allows for increased natural (i.e: no g-suit) g-force resistance. Though typically known as a male career, female pilots are increasing in numbers. Personal opinions with regards to allowing this are still very strong within the forces, especially in the RAF.
