Well today, I decided to get some outdoor portraits of my friend Amy [she did the body shots too ] and so I dragged he kicking and screaming to a park about half hour from where she lives, that I pass everyday on the way to work.
This is my first time trying anything like this, and im just trying to see how it works. The only flash that I had, that I used, was my pop up flash.
Anyway...C&C Welcome.

Thanks for looking, they'll be more added maybe later, when I have come back in from work, cos I wont be able to sleep for about an hour.
really nice work there.
The last mono one does nothing for me though... it looks amazing with all the colour in it.
number 4 for me really like it

I'm probs going to get a slap for this, but to me they look a little OFF (:runaway:) It might be my monitor on my laptop so i'll have to boot up the desktop and have a look
Number Five is the best for me
if this is your first time at this, im really looking forward to seeing what you do after much practise...... the last 3 are excellant, number 4 gets my vote... good work

I have to say that I agree with this, was also wondering whether it was my monitor. Could be something to do with PP maybe, but #1, #2 & #4 particularly look OOF to me.
Other than that - great composition and poses Adele.

They've all had a similar, soft focus work done in them in PP, not to a drastic style, but enough. This is why they would look a little OOF to some people.

Thanks Bonsyde I generally do portraits in the studio, so being out in the open was a bit scary

Yep, have just looked at them on the desktop.
4, 5 and 6 are great. I really like what pp you have done with 6, and the colours on 5 are awesome. On 4 the sky really gives it that exstra (Sort of) HDR effect and the way the wall goes though the image is good
I hope that is better crit from me
Adele for me the first three portrait shots are soft it may be the focus is not 100% the B/W is the best though nice treatment and comp.
Not sure about the other three your model is clashing with the graffiti much to much for me, a different urban backdrop would have helped.
I know you said its your first time hope you don,t mind my observations, only trying to help.

Thanks Tony, it was actually HDR'd :D and I shot quite a few of these with my 10-20 lens.

Les, I will post up a shot that hasnt had the soft-focus treatment on them, because that could be what it is. To me, they look fine, and thats the look I was going for, I'm unsure why the focus would be off, as it would just be down to user error, and I'm pretty sure that they were ok....They look ok straight out of camera.
What do you class as a different urban backdrop?
The model in question actually loved the graffiti backdrop.
I am all for learning and getting extra help where I can. :)
I like the first one. Looks natural.
Thanks :)
Adele
If the model and you like them thats all that matters I just thought they could have been sharper with a bit more zing but thats only my opinion if like you say you went for the soft option then mission accomplished
The urban background I had in mind something like an old mill brickwork or even something modern straight lines etc, I just think with the graffiti your eye is drawn away from the subject but as you say you both like them point taken.

Hey Les, we're always wanting different opinions, and what someone wants, someone else may not want, and everyones likes and dislikes are different. We're all here to learn and grow. :)
Comments appreciated
Number 4 actually made me say wow out loud, and im half asleep! jus think her face is a little oof. otherwise, awesome, cant wait til i can produce shots like that!
I think sometimes OOF shots can still be WOW shots. We have to realise on here too that not everyone has a 5k body and a glass collection that could be swapped for a sports car.
Cracking shots imo, Loved 4, well done !

I'm going to post a sharp picture, one that has been processed differently to these..... cos they dont look OOF on my monitor.

Can i just ask, Why you ask or a model comes to you and ask for some photos to be taken of her. Do you always/Have to get them to sign a model release form?
Cheers

Thanks Mercury, I think I may have to go visit this wall with her again, and do something a bit more edgy.

I dont get my models to sign a model release form - or I havent with her, as she is a friend. [and ok I probably know I should have] but generally my models are too young to sign their names. :D
Tony, if you google, model release forms, you'll find some really interesting stuff, on why people mainly use them.

Awesome, Thanks for that
Going to have a butchers now :)
I really like No3. I don't really see them as OOF just softened a little. Sometimes the effect takes the sharpness out of them.
Liking them though.

№5 is ace - love it, but by contrast... №6 is dreadful, it loses the character it has, because you shot it thinking in colour... Mono≠Insta-art.

Thanks Ali, its whether or not people can tell the difference between a softened image [which they are] or an OOF one.

Thanks Steve, I'm definately going to try this again :)

Yeah, the shot was shot tinking in colour, but I wondered what it would look like in mono... as we figured, some people like it, some people dont.

Thank you :) Luckily, she doesnt mind having a camera shoved in her face.
I'm not keen on 5 & 6. The hidden feet make it seem like shes floating! Apart from that I like them :)

Maybe she was floating? :D
Number 4 is stunning! The bakground, composition and well, almost everything. Her face seems a little off, I dunno, not quite as sharp as it could be. It doesn't ruin the photo that much though, it's great!
