RUST in peace that is!

Came across this poor old thing while out walking the other evening, no idea what make or model etc but it was obviously long past its use by date!

The photo was taken in fairly dull light, can anyone explain how the image could be made to look less "flat" in PS processing?

Those vans were a pretty common sight on Spanish roads a few years back, the name Edbro comes to mind, but I can't remember if they were/are a manufacturer or retailer

As for the image itself, have a wee play about with the curves in PS - try an "S" curve on Red and Green and a reverse "S" on the blue channel, but don't blame me if it all goes horribly wrong

Poor van  Would have been better with all of the van in the shot.

Flash, tried messing with the S curves but have not made any improvements but I'm sure that is the way to do it

Matt, there was a lot of unsightly rubbish just out of shot both sides but, yes it would have been better with the whole (what's left of it) van in shot.

Cheers,

Neil

Agreed, would have been better to have the whole van in shot imo...

What about a wee tweak of the saturation instead?

That works well Dino f, I haven't a clue as to how you apply HDR, I thought it was achieved by combining 3 images but obviously not.....

How's it done (as in this example)?

Cheers,

Neil

I made this one up from 5 images. I took your original photo, and made 4 more copies. In photoshop, using the exposure tool i then altered the exposure of each one giving me -1stop, -1/2stop, original exposure, +1/2 stop, +1stop. Then processed the whole thing in Photomatix Pro 3. It should really be done this way with raw images, but sometimes it does work with jpegs.
Hope that helps.

Great, I'll have a go at that, presumably PS has a function to perform the putting together bit? Hope so, as I don't have Photomatix.

Cheers,

Neil
