1) Do you need an adaptor to use old manual lenses (ie-the ones you used to get on film cameras) on digital... I am pretty sure you do!

2) Is this worth doing... would the image quality be reasonable?

Sorry if the question is dense or something. I know I would have to manual focus with the old lenses, most likely, but I am wondering if it is a good way to get some lenses on a budget.

Thanks.
I wonder if one can get decent quality images out of the old Fd lenses.

hi there
canon FD do a 50mm at 1:2 and a 55mm at 1:2... the standard 50mm 1:4 and 1:8
hope this helps

hey,
the simple response is...not really, you can get adapters to convert FD to EF, but they ether contain an optical element, which generally lowers the quality, or if they dont, they will be inable to focus to infinity...

this said, there are many old manual focus lenses that will work on a cannon 40d without any optical conversion, so no reduction in quality, any lens with an olympus OM mount would work, M42 mounts also work, and so do verious others (nikon F mount...if i remember corectly)

if you do a google serch on useing old lenses with eos systems, it should tell you.

from experiance, of useing old nikon manual focus lenses, (the E serries), i have only been impressed so far, the build quality is excellent, although have done no comparisons for image quality,

hope this helps:)

As has been said, the FD lens adaptors have an optical element in them, and so are not worth using. Olympus OM, Contax C/Y, Leica R, Nikon, Pentax K, M42, and many medium format lenses are doable and in some cases offer better image quality then anything available in native EF mount, or just different rendering styles to what is available in EF mount.

For reviews and information about what lenses to look for, look here (http://www.16-9.net/).

So it would be worth getting the adaptor that will allow me to make use of Nikon Lenses, you reckon?
