Just to let you all know, the front page is going to be messed about with, we are going to be trying a couple of things, so if anything odd occurs, thats all it is.

There are gonna be some major changes and upgrades to the front of site within the next x days/weeks ;)
This is to let you all know...(as in, it's not just tonight that there will be changes)
The front page is being redesigned to become a portal to the site, rather than a replacement for the forum pages and the rest of the links and pages that the site provides.
Hence why the avatar has gone...PM info is in the navbar all the time ;)
Same with birthdays etc, they are on the forum page.
Not all changes will be permanent, but we will be making some major changes.
I thought it was internet connection :lol:

so, you are moving us from using the front page to surf the site?
we are making the front page more information and less new posts page...
sounds like a plan, cant wait to see what you come up with

Damn.... I like lurking on the front page hitting "F5" to see whats new.
Oh it'll still be there, but we want the front page to be a portal to what's going on in the forums, rather than a "Here are the latest posts" page.

a balance has to be struck between having a large community, and paying for it to run on a server. The front page is a good place for a few small banners. We could add them to the main forums if you want an ad-free front page though...:nuts:

Sure, we need to pay for the server etc etc, but not at the cost of functionality or anything.
What you saw there marky, was me moving the sponsors banners to the left column, temporarily, while I moved things around.

Just now I got a message flash up on the screen saying that I was the 100th visitor to the site tonight and I had won a prize.....!
I clicked on it and said I have won a Nikon D300. What a change to the front page I'll say.

Looks like I have started something!!!!!! I would like to see the gallery ditched too, it makes the forum stick out loads on my screen at work, which is a bad thing!!!!

One thing I seem to be missing is the new post/threads since last log in. I tend to use it so that I can scroll through all the most recent posts and saves going into each individual forum.
Or is there another way of seeing all threads from all forums newest to oldest?

I once notice a betting web site had a large button on the top bar called " Quick the boss is coming" and when you press it a big pie chart appears with loads of statistics.
Could be a good plan !!! :cuckoo:

Another vote for bringing back buddies and ditching galleries.
(Sometimes we manipulate somones image at their request and have to put it in our gallery to re-post it...........it will then come up on the front page as OUR image! )

hmm, just tried it, clicked macro and none of the images were macro shots:shrug:
Blame the thread starters......theyre the ones that tagged those threads with the word you clicked on ;)
Tag Clouds are becoming more and more popular now, very very handy if theyre used correctly.

There may be a module to do that, but then that would be duplicating the information on the main forum page, which is what we're trying to avoid :)
When I post in a certain forums (nudes and OOF for instance) why does the post not show up on the front page?
That's deliberate. We keep OOF from the front page, as its literally off-topic and we want to keep the focus on this being a photography site.
The nudes is because many people browse at work and we have to keep it to a specific section. We don't want people clicking on nude threads accidentally.
