This is turning into a bit of a project! Went out for another wander along the new gas pipeline they're laying up here, took a few shots (some more to process yet, but I got talking and I'm late back ).

Here's one to be going on with :)

Yep, a touch of fill flash

nice

Thanks :)

Yep, a touch of fill flash

nice and subtle, the little highlight being almost the only giveaway. Unless you stop to take in the fact that the light is behind the pipe of course. ;)

Lovely shot, there's always something really pleasing about seeing the ugly made to look so beautiful.

10-06-2008, 14:06
High praise indeed Dazzajl, You're right about the flash of course, this is the 2nd time I've been to shoot these pipes, I really like the images I've prouduced, considering they're just a bunch of pipes being buried in the ground :D

I feel a little guilty now. I'm not convinced that pipes have feelings but perhaps I shouldn't have called it ugly.

I guess the serious point is that it's not ugly at all is it. It just needs to be seen through the eyes of someone who sees it's beauty.

mattyh
10-06-2008, 14:43
No... you were right the first time, they're butt ugly, they ruin the landscape, but hey, while they're there, I'll take the opportunity to try and make something of them :)

Plus, the gas they're going to carry will keep my house nice and warm & my food cooked, so who am I to complain :D

And a perfect example of the much needed "focal point" for the wide angle :D Remove the pipes, would you still be happy having used that lens and with the shot?

Just curious - what a cracker it is though.

good point that

mattyh
10-06-2008, 17:52
PRobably not Gary, because there wouldn't have been any foreground interest, so I'd have moved somewhere else to make it more interesting, and still used the 10-20, I love that lens :woot: :D

Can't beat a wide-boy for 'in-yer-face' landscapes, and the fact that these things make apertures only useful for exposure and no longer anything to do with DoF

What a lens (any super-wide that is)

Mine's the Nikon 12-24 that Mattyh has played with I think - inspired him to wider things I feel

(Unless of course I'm making all that up, Mattyh?)

Nope DD, never played with your wide one

the 10-20 is all LeeP's fault :D

Soz Mattyh - you're right

It's Dellipher who's gotten her hands round the girth of my wide-boy, on my dining-room table as I remember

My she was impressed

Got her own 10-20 now, seems she needed even wider than mine to fill her desires
