View Full Version : Budgie makes bid for freedom
Seen this blue Budgie for the last week, while I've been taking the dog for his walk. Today I took the camera along too

He appears to be quite happy, and made a friend with this House Sparrow. Follows him everywhere :)
Hope he survives.

He looks like my late Budgie, Madison.
I bet his family miss him :(

Well captured. I hope like you the Budgie survives.
Thanks for the comments :)
I've had a look on some of the lamposts round here, (usual place for 'lost animal notices'), but nothing. Maybe he's not being missed that much, or the owners have just given up on him. :(
Good photo, but sadly he, probably, wont survive long. Captive birds dont, once they've escaped. Lack of correct diet and cats usually.

If it's following a wild bird round though, won't it learn some skills?
I'd like to think so :)
Shall be watching this little chap. Hope he does survive.

Not technically perfect but a brilliant capture! The budgie who thinks it's a sparrow perhaps? Love it :)
nah - you've got it all wrong
it's a sparrow that wants to be a budgie!
nice shot too!

I like the shot hope they do not mate or we could have a Sparrow budgie
Awwww! The poor little thing :( I hope it survives.
Have you tried coaxing it down? Some budgies are so well trained that with a little lip smacking and a serious silly voice they usually come to you, at which point you hold on tight till you can pop it into some sort of carrier (not a carrier bag, for those that think naughty like that ). Then I guess if no one claims it, you have a new pet

Of course, that'll be it. Mind you, I've heard of trophy birds, but that sparrow is taking the p*ss. It won't last. :-)

From what I know of Hairy, my opinion would be that he is unlikely to perform such a hoax. But we shall see. :)

 Can assure you no hoax, or pp tricks. Got a few of them together I could put up later, even some uncopped ones if you want.
Straight from the camera, no pp, just resized

OK. I think the other shots you've posted are much more convincing. Poor old budgie is what I'm saying now.

Teehee - sad to say, but hes a goner - no way will it survive in our climate or with the other birds who will attack it!

Why would you think that Gary? He seems to get on with the Sparrow. After all, they're birds, not people

Well this time of year oprobably not a huge worry, but he will not survive a UK winter I reckon - outdoor setups for budgies need pretty good heating, so unless he can work out how to keep warm, he will die..
I reckon a big bird will get him first!!

Nope he's bright Yellow IIRC :D
what about all the parrots free ranging in Kent?
Harris hawks survive in the wild
( and are reputedly breeding ( thats questionable though)) and they (HH) come from central South America.

I think its the fact that it is (I presume) an escaped captive bird which is one of the biggest issues...
Who knows, I wish it all the best :)
Gary.

Hairy, Have you tried putting a cage in the garden to see if it would go in? If he is scared he might?

I guess it could have escaped from an outside Avery in which case it will already be used to the climate. My Aunt has an outside Avery and doesn't have any heating in it.
Quick update on the Budgie.
Hadn't seen him about yesterday when I take the dog out; usually about 5.30 a.m., but this morning he was sitting in a conifer tree :)

Unfortunatley LB, he's not in my garden so I can't really put a cage in there.
Not working till late tomorrow, so maybe more time to investigate where he's from, perhaps. I've a feeling he's getting under the eaves of the house at night, so maybe the shelter and warmth might help him survive.
