Recently bought my first DSLR, and now need a bag to carry it around. I fancy the rucksack variety as I do a lot of walking. The TAMRAC Expedition 4 seems to fit the bill. Any opinions? I'm not overly fussed but it seems the right size and the right price.
Thanks

Should have added, I have a Canon 400D, 18-55 Kit lense and a Sigma 70-300. Hopeing to get more equipment as time goes by, but not yet. Thought that if I entered my camera bag details it wwould appear at the bottom of my thread - I was wrong.

Lowepro Mini Trekker is a good size - you'd only fill half of the camera gear section, but with plenty of movebale dividers it gives you space for snacks, flask, clothing.
I've had 2 bodies, a Sigma 17-35mm, Sigma 80-400 OS, Sigma 17-35 and a couple of old Canon lenses in and still not quite filled it. At £50 (check current cashback offers) its a very good buy.

I've just got a Lowepro Rover AW to take on my walking holiday. I needed something that I could fit lunch, waterproof and extra jumper and this does it quite nicely. Also has a waist strap to take some of the weight.
It was approx £75.00 including postage from Digital Depot.
I'll be able to tell you if it does the trick in a few weeks time when I've got back from Austria.

Another vote for the mini trekker AW here, great bag:thumbs:

Lowpro Slingshot
I am on my second Lowpro Slingshot, first 100, now 200 slingshot, used to use a Lowpro rucksack but got tired of having to keep take it off to take a picture or change a lens. It is very very quick to to slide round the body unzip and take out camera, very different from my rucksack.
I see a few people on the forums with 3 and 5s but no 4s.

I agree the Slingshot is great for easy access, I have one too and won't be parting with it as its great for days out.
But for serious walking I found that I got severe neck and back ache with all the weight being on one shoulder plus there is no room in the 200 for extra's like lunch, waterproof and extra sweater.
I guess it will all depend on what type of walking Lilytippytoes does which one will suit the best.

You need a backpack, and Tamrac are the best at the price as far as I'm concerned :)
Photopro mag are giving away a lowepro fastpack 200 with a years subscription at the moment!

I have an Expedition-4 and think it's a perfect size bag. Here's a pic with all my D300 kit in it....

You can't see it on the above photo, but I have a neat Manfrotto MonoPod attached to the cover of the rucksack too. Personally, I think all carrying-kits are a compromise and none are perfect for all occasions, but the Expedition-4 seems like a decent all-rounder.
Highly recommended!

i got the lowepro slingshot 100 last week
its holds the camera with lens attached and a couple of lenses, at a squeeze
its also not bulky and is ok for walking
Seems to me there are a number of different reasons/uses for having a camera bag, I use my camera bag for day out shoots, were I know what I am going to be photographing and take what I need. Another reason for a bag seems to used to take more than just the camera gear but lunch etc as well. Yet another use of a camera bag seems to be to store all associated camera equipment as well as the camera.

Camera bag details will appear in your profile.
If you want it at the bottom of your post, put it in your sig.
For the OP I bought the Expedition 8 as I knew I would be expanding kit fairly rapidly and did not want to change bags every couple of months.
I find it to be extremely comfortable even when having worn it and walked for several hours, carrying everything below plus food and drink.
