Amazing aircraft - and so rare to actual see a ground shot of one with the engines running.
Is there a known precaution why theres a Fireman on hand or is that standard procedure?
Thanks for sharing:)
Thanks for the comment :)
I have the total start up recorded in photos lol this one isnt airworthy yet, but you can buy a taxi ride in it !
I think its standard practice during the start of any of these old warbirds to have fire crews around as they are pretty much priceless !
One of my neighbours actually flew a few missions in these as a tail gunner. He did well cos life expectency for tail gunners was zippo.

I went to the Battle of Britain Memorial flight base earlier this year, and i can believe that, they showed us how the tail gunner got out in an emergency, and seeing as they couldnt wear their parachute while in position !!!! :nut:
One of the great things about growing up around here was the Shackletons based at Kinloss (younger brothers of the lancaster) the low flypasts with those 4 great merlin engines throbbing away just turned your knees to jelly. It will be a terrible shame when there are no more airworthy Lancs.

So true Steep !
I got the wrong info too, there are 17 Lancs left in the world not 3, only 2 are airworthy though ! and this isnt one of them !
I honestly never knew there were so little of them left.
Fantastic piece of history there.
Wonder what the fireman was doing there...was my wife catering perhaps?

Standard for all military aircraft everywhere - most UK commercial operators too. Look out the window the next time you fly anywhere and chances are there'll be a bloke with a trolley-mounted extinguisher somewhere nearby.
