I prefer the colour one, though he's a bit pink on my monitor
I'd also prefer the catchlight a bit more at 1-2pm rather than 3pm, and if it was round/octagonal; though I guess if you were shooting kids it'd have been right for them and you forgot to lift it/or lower him if you haven't space?
Glad you're back set up for 'proper' photography -

Hey - he may just be a bit pink? I don't know
This looks more like what I'd think of as natural, and I like the revolving eye trick

The b+w version for me, there is more depth to it.

B&W for me too  - colour looks just a little bit like a (very good quality) security card photo to me!

Toned down colour for me, the mono actually made me post this (http://www.talkphotography.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=66682)

I prefer the black and white one too, but I think the tonal range you have is a little too light and would be stronger if it had more mid to low end.
Simon
another vote for the B&W.

Another version of the B&W where I've had a go at creating a high contrast version, hope you don't mind.

The HC image really ages his skin, it took me five mins to work out quite why it looked so different. I'll stick to the toned down colour.

When you've done the contrast boost it has boosted all the channels, you need to reduce the red channel to stop the aged look. If you get the red channel too high it starts to bring through all the blemishs in the skin.
