First one is better in colour the second in B&W. Don't really know why, just my feeling.

Might be because it takes the busyness of the backround away?
I like both in b&w

Hmm, resizing seems to have given the b + w shots a nasty texture.

You could be right. B :-)

Yeah, background...well, at the time he was sat there trying to sort out my grip or something. As said, was testing the waters, but don't think they are horrendously bad shots.

They're crisp as owt, i could never get a result like that afer a few hours with a new piece of kit.

Heh, I had actually only turned it on at the time having got the lens on and decided to work without the grip for now.

I have only tried it with the 28-135 IS USM, not touched the macro, 80-400 Tokina or 70-200 f4 L yet.

Colour balance looks pretty off in both of them, especially #2, so B/W for me. 2nd one could be sharper too, but I imagine that's just down to the shutter speed.

The first shot is looking well over -saturated .I desaturated and just boosted the contrast a little. Nice portrait study!

Some of these are still oversize but I'm hitting the sack for now. ;)

Thanks... I did resize the b + W but something went wrong and the darker shades became all noisy and horrid? Not sure how to resize without that happening?

Thanks for the adjustments, I guess I went a little overboard playing with them lol.

You beat me to it CT. I was going to suggest they do work in colour but the saturation needed to be taken back a bit. Other than that they are great portraits.

Yeah they seem alright compositionally, the resizing or whatnot has made them look slightly OOF/ oversharpened... whos the host ?

I thought 'Candids' were unposed shots?

They weren't posed. I took them while he was sat in my living room sorting out my battery grip or somesuch. He just happened to be looking up. Had they been posed, I sure wouldn't have chosen such a terrible background lol.

Photobucket... which never seemed to do great things with my shots. I have flickr, but that doesn't seem to work here with img when I do it. I might have overdone the sharpening anyway pp... I am very new to elements. Only my second time using it.

Both the mono shots are dismal, if you want to make mono images, you NEED to learn about what makes a good B&W shot, rather than just converting everything to mono and asking if its better, Mono≠Instart.

If shooting in colour is your thing... keep the colour. Anyway; rant over sorry if that seemed slightly harsh.

The second is a really, really nice capture, but currently a bad photo, go sort the colour balance and it will be lovely.

I took the liberty of taking the photo and making an attempt at converting it to B&W myself.

Thankyou, but I see no reason to be so harsh nor rude about it thankyou very much. I am new to digital, and maybe you should bear that in mind before spouting off. I shot plenty of b + w film and find your remark highly insulting, not to mention insensitive, with no attempt made to word it a little more carefully. My self confidence in my photography is already s**t without the likes of you rubbing it in. Think I shalll just sell off the stupid camera and put it down to another of my useless failings.
