Few snaps of the mighty KISS from the Download Festival at Donington on Friday (13th June) night!

All taken from about half a mile away with a wee Canon Powershot!

Great atmosphere captured here, even though you were miles away! Well done for even trying!

Yes and I'm willing to bet only a couple of the cabs have speakers in them!

Just about everyone was in front of me!

I was right at the back (and off to the side) and the "firework" shot is a pretty good representation of how far away I was!

My wee Powershot camera was into it's "digital" zoom range for anything other than the full stage!

I would go far to say as none of those cabs were on ... i reckon they would just go straight from processing into the PA (although obv have moniters ect so the band can hear themselves)

You can clearly see some of the bottom 4x12's are "miked" in a conventional fashion at the right hand side.

Most of the "old" bands still favour conventional setups and the KISS guitar sound is pretty standard anyway - no need for "processing" by way of electronic amp or cab sims as nothing really changes in the guitar sound apart from a bit of chorus on a couple of intros.

Yep, I reckon that's four of the 4x12's that are miked. No emulator gets close to a miked 4x12 for a decent rock tone!

Been looking for shots, what were they like? I'd love to see them, been a fan since I was at school!

As per MSG post, I'm now sulking even more, feeling old....LOL

They were fantastic Carl!

I was there as a punter - hence the PowerShot photos from half a mile away! :)

Almost a complete greatest hits set apart from a couple of "fillers" with all the expected theatricals, Gene breathing fire, spewing blood and flying, Tommy firing rockets from his guitar and Paul flying out into the crowd on a pulley!

Would be gimmicky and cheesy apart from the fact that they are one of the few classic rock bands that CAN actually sing and play live as well!

There's a UK tour promised for either this year or next!

Now that's a proper concert!

Great shots considering they're from the middle of the crowd.

I think the distance and the fact that you can see the whole stage only adds to capturing the atmosphere.

I'm willing to bet that most people only went to Download on the Friday as the Saturday/Sunday line-ups were so weak?

You're right about the line-up though - very weak. The Offspring on the Saturday and the Lost Prophets on the Sunday?

None of these bands are festival headline material!

Ace Frehley and Saxon should have been on on the Friday as well with all the other classic and heavy rock acts!

I'm sure messrs Stanley and Simmons would have made sure they didn't run into Ace though!

Didn't realise that they'd fallen out????

You've got to play by Mr Simmons rules if you want to play at all!

Probably more chance of Ace getting back in than Peter Criss though! :)

Seconded... Download this year was a disgrace lineup wise, didn't sell out for ages, which is strange for Download.

Cant wait for leeds though!

Yup, they were in big trouble ticket sales wise - mainly because of the Saturday/Sunday line-up.

They tried to force everyone to buy a weekend ticket and stated that they weren't going to sell day tickets.

They had to change their mind in the end though and it was only the Friday sales (for KISS and Judas Priest) that saved them!

It didn't come anywhere near to selling out at all - the only tickets that sold-out were the Friday day tickets!

kiss are an old band... therefore alot of older people like them compared to the newer bands ...

I think the amount of children in KISS make-up on the day far out-numbered the "old people"!
