Nice shot, except it's Large Skipper - Ochlodes venata :) It's the largest of our golden skippers, and has distinctive markings on the wings.

Thanks Venomator, next few weeks its Orchids, Bugs, Plants for me.

Martin this thing was about the size of my thumbnail so i thought it must be a small, any clues as to why its a Large, im curious?

Because, as I said above, it's the largest of our golden skippers ( out of 5)...in order of size the smallest is Lulworth Skipper, the next three are the same size, Small, Essex and Silver-spotted Skippers, and Large being the biggest. It's also bigger than our other skippers, Dingy, Grizzled and Chequered (don't you just love those names? :))

Martin.

PS - it's a male too...it has sex brands (the dark lines on it's wings) which produce pheramones.
